25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dear Friends in Christ,
Alaska is a beautiful place to experience the grandeur of God
and His creative hand. All from the parish who attended the
cruise had a great time. The vistas spectacular, the food wonderful, and the
new friends made were exciting. It was truly a great experience! As I have
now returned, Fr. Prakash has left for his holiday to see his family and
friends in India. He will be back on October 25
th
. We pray for his safe
travel, enjoyable time, and look forward to his return to share with us about his home.
As you heard last week we are undergoing a parish wide survey to determine what the needs of our
parish are as we celebrate 50 years of service and look forward to another 50 years in spreading the Good
News of Jesus Christ. We look forward to hearing your responses and to report back what our campaign
will help us attain. As we reflect on 50 years, the Gospel today reminds us of being good stewards of
what God has given us.
"Make friends for yourselves through your use of this world's goods, so that when
they fail you, a lasting reception may be yours." The gifts God bestows upon us in
this world come with a responsibility to be good stewards of all he has made. These
are the little matters he entrusts to us now, so that we may prepare for the far greater
good of eternal life. The Church holds in a crucial balance both the universal
destination of goods as well as the right to private property. Both reflect God's
providence, and neither excuse us from sincere and generous charity.
The Church draws her social teaching from the Lord's instructions in the
Gospel parables and other expressions of his law of love. We are not permitted to reduce our use of
earthly goods to the pursuit of profit alone irregardless of other factors. A theory that makes profit the
exclusive norm and ultimate end of economic activity is morally unacceptable.
All that God gives is to be shared, but in a collaborative and voluntary way, in accord with the human
dignity both of the giver and the receiver of the gift. "The goods of creation are destined for the entire
human race. The right to private property does not abolish the universal destination of goods." (CCC
2452)
"Those blessed with wealth or economic power, whether individuals or nations, are called at the
same time to stewardship and active solicitude for the poor, unemployed and dispossessed. Goods of
production - material or immaterial - such as land, factories, practical or artistic skills, oblige their
possessors to employ them in ways that will benefit the greatest number. Those who hold goods for use
and consumption should use them with moderation, reserving the better part for guests, for the sick and
the poor." (CCC 2405)
Social justice on earth anticipates the perfect justice and love of the Kingdom. We are trusted with
these little matters now that our heavenly Father may prepare us to inherit, as true sons and daughters of
his, the treasure beyond all price: the reign of heaven.
Praised Be Jesus Christ!
Fr. Pecchie
p.s. Just a reminder to all: the Fun Fair is almost upon us. What a great way to support our parish and aid
our school. Hopefully many parishioners who are able have volunteered some of their time to assist at
the game or food booths. But more importantly I hope to see all of you there as we celebrate 50 years of
uniting the largo community in some fun and games.
Also I want to thank everyone who came out for the
work party. The grounds, Church and Parish center
look great. All who came out - a job well done! I
heard it was lots of fun as I can visualize from viewing
the displayed picture board.

First Reading -- Woe to the complacent,
stretched comfortably on their couches!
(Amos 6:1a, 4-7).
Psalm -- Praise the Lord, my soul! (Ps 146)
Second Reading -- Pursue righteousness,
devotion, faith, love, patience, and
gentleness (1 Timothy 6:11-16).
Gospel -- There was a rich man who dined
sumptuously each day. Lying at his door
was a poor man named Lazarus (Luke
16:19-31).
Is my charitable outreach to others geared
to change their situation for the future and
not just the present?
Am I aware of the misery of others, offering
what they need, respecting them, and
reviewing my own priorities?
Readings Ahead:
September 30, 2007
26th Sunday
in Ordinary Time
We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ all year!
OUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS
The Second Vatican Council has called us to envision the Church
as the people of God. As a community of believers we are responsible
for our brothers and sisters, their salvation, their journey of faith, their
physical well-being. Many of the documents of Vatican II and volumes
of work since the mid-1960s give us advice, guidelines, and
encouragement to take care of one another: the poor, the elderly, the
unborn, the broken, the infirm.
Because Vatican II is part of our recent history--indeed many of us
were already born--this may strike us as a new and revolutionary idea.
But today's readings show us the
agelessness of the issue of social
justice. Eight hundred years before
Christ was born, Amos warned the
wealthy not to cheat the poor. In
Paul's first letter to Timothy, he
encourages all prayers to be for all
people; and finally, the Gospel
urges the wise use of money.

HELP WANTED: St. Patrick Players need your support!
The community enthusiasm and support for the Last Supper Tableau held
this past Lenten season has given birth to a new play 'The Christmas Offering' to
be presented in December. This production will include an exciting combination
of drama, music and dance which will be a new experience for St. Patrick Parish.
If you are a patron of the arts and share St. Patrick Players vision of having different age groups work
together, please call Paul at 581-2168 with your donation. Whether large or small, your donation will be used
to upgrade our lighting and sound capabilities which will provide the best audience experience.
SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES:
Our parish, along with many others in the Dio-
cese, will be involved in the Bishop's initiative
on the Eucharist.
It is the Bishop's goal,
through this initiative, to help Catholics
throughout the Diocese deepen their relation-
ship to Christ as they celebrate and reflect on
the sacrament of his Body and Blood. This
initiative will begin October 7th with a six-week
faith-sharing program on the Eucharist, enti-
tled "Eucharist-Source and Summit". During this
time we will look at the history of the Eucharist,
different aspects of the Liturgy of the Word and
the Liturgy of the Eucharist, as well as Eucharis-
tic devotion. Sign-up for these groups after all
Masses this weekend. Please prayerfully con-
sider joining a group.

St. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels
St. Michael is the Patron Saint of artists, bakers, holy death, police
officers, sick people, soldiers, storms at sea.
St. Gabriel is the Patron Saint of broadcasters, clergy, diplomats,
messengers, post offices, radio workers, television.
St. Raphael is the Patron Saint of blind people, doctors, eye problems,
guardian angels, happy meetings, love, travelers.
Feast Day: September 29
Angels?
We use the title
"Saint" in connection with the
archangels whose feast is
celebrated this day St.
Michael, St. Gabriel, and St.
Raphael.
But does it make
any sense to ask how these
pure spirits "use their gifts and
talents for the Lord"?
St.
Gregory the Great wrote of
them, "Some angels are given
proper names to denote the
service they are empowered to
perform. Personal names are
assigned to some to denote
their ministry when they come
among us.
Thus, Michael
means `'Who is like God''; Gabriel is `The Strength of God'; and
Raphael is `God's Remedy.'" Suppose I were identified with a
name that denoted the part God has invited me to play in the
coming of the Kingdom . . . When I am most true to my God-
given calling when I am being the best possible steward of
my vocation what would my name be? God our Father, in a
wonderful way you give the work of angels and men. May
those who serve you constantly in heaven keep our lives safe
from all harm on earth. Amen.

SHARE-A-PRAYER: If you or
someone you know needs spe-
cial prayers, let us pray for you
and your loved ones.

lift our hearts to God!
Eucharistic Adoration every Wednesday
Come, pray with me!
Please
consider spending even one hour
each Wednesday to be with Our
Lord in Eucharistic Adoration,
beginning after the 9 AM Mass
and concluding with Benediction
at 6:45 PM. Please sign up at the
Church entrance.
Wednesdays in our
Diocese have been designated as a day
to pray for holy vocations.
Have you lost a loved one
recently? You don't have to
walk this journey alone ...
Our GriefShare sessions are on
Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM in
the Parish Library of Msgr. McCall
Hall. If you or someone you know is having a hard time coping
with the loss of a loved one, please consider coming to our
gatherings and be with those who understand. GriefShare is a
12-week Christian based bereavement group.
As many
people have found out, this road is not one to be traveled
alone.
If you have any questions or need any more
information, please contact Pat at 585-0945 or Claire in the
parish office, ext. 302.
