24TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Hello, My Dear Friends,

What a wonderful opportunity to write a Pastor's letter before I leave to India for my vacation.
This is awesome! I'll be gone on 17
th
September, and I won't be back until 25
th
October. I'm looking
forward to and I'm excited about it. I can't wait to see my mom, brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and
nephew, friends and relatives. You will be missed, but you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'll be
missing some of the Jubilee programs, and I'll also miss the School Fun Fair this year. So you will not
find me at the dunk tank! I feel sorry for all those who have plans to dunk me in! You will probably
have to wait for another year. I love Fun Fair, especially the different rides,
slides, food, music, and above all, the crowd. I feel sad that I'm missing all the
fun and the joy, well, never mind. This is all part of life. Anyways, I would like
to wish the School Faculty and the students Good Luck for the Fun Fair.
Well, I'll be enjoying my mom's cooking as she will make all my favorite
food. Would you like to come with me to India? You can squeeze in; I think
there is enough room in my suitcase. The total distance of my travel is about
20,000 miles (round trip). It's a long distance. I think I need a break and I'll go
and spend time with my family. I hope I'll have a great time with them, and the
weather is going to be cooler with some monsoon rains at this time of the year.
Everything will be alright and hopefully I'll be back rejuvenated. Please keep
me and my travels in your prayers. I assure you that you'll be in my prayers and
thoughts. Thank you so much for all that you do for me here at St. Patrick's.
Time for humor: Four Catholic ladies were having coffee. The first Catholic woman tells her friends,
"My
son is a priest. When he walks into a room, everyone calls him `Father'."
The second Catholic woman chirps,
"My son is a bishop. Whenever he walks into a room, the people call him `Your Grace'."
The third Catholic
crone says,
"My son is a cardinal. Whenever he walks into a room, people say `Your Eminence'."
Since the
fourth Catholic woman sips her coffee in silence, the first three women give her this subtle ,
"Well...?"
And she
said,
"My son is a gorgeous, 6' 2" body-builder. When he walks into a room, people say, "Oh, my God..."
Sunday Reflections: Turn towards God; there is Joy and Life.

Today we are being given reflections in the Scriptures of repentance. In the 1
st
reading God relents
from wiping out the faithless Israelites. Paul reflects on how merciful God has been to him. Jesus tells
stories about how God looks after the lost. In the parable of the Prodigal Son, when the son turned away
from his father he ruined his life, but when he turned towards his father he found joy and dignity in life.
The Prodigal Son did not appreciate his father's love and care while he was with him. At times, we too
do not appreciate good things in life; we take things and people for granted. There are times when
spouses do not appreciate one another, children do not value their parents' love,
and students turn a deaf ear to their teachers. Sinners undervalue God's mercy
and love. Let us pause for a moment of introspection as to why we fail to
recognize and value the noble deeds of others. The Scriptures offer us words of
comfort and challenge. Turning away from God there is destruction, death and
wretchedness; turning towards the Lord, there is joy, life and blessedness.
Thank you very, very much for your love and support.
Have an awesome weekend!
Praise the Lord!
Fr. Prakash
JMJ
From our Associate Pastor
background image
First Reading -- You who trample upon the
needy and destroy the poor of the land, the
Lord will never forget what you have
done! (Amos 8:4-7).
Psalm -- Praise the Lord who lifts up the
poor (Psalm 113).
Second Reading -- God our savior wills
everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:1-8).
Gospel -- The person who is trustworthy in
very small matters is also trustworthy in
great ones (Luke 16:1-13 [10-13]).
As a disciple of Christ, am I a clever steward
of all that has been entrusted to me? Do I
give back to God, and also help the poor?
Readings Ahead:
September 23, 2007
25th Sunday
in Ordinary Time
We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ all year!
RECONCILIATION
True reconciliation is emotional, dramatic, and cleansing. When
two people meet heart to heart and work through old hurts,
misunderstandings, and careless words, cleansing tears often flow and
the encounter ends with an embrace that fills both with the warmth of a
love too strong to fade.
The readings this weekend assure us of this healthy release that
comes with reconciliation. They give us the courage to reach out to
someone with whom we need to reconcile ourselves, and give us the
courage to ask for forgiveness from God, too.
In the reading from Exodus, we see how God refuses again and
again to give up on the Israelites. Even
though they grow impatient with God and
turn to false idols, God still calls them back.
Luke's Gospel assures us that God rejoices
when we turn away from sin. Paul's letter to
Timothy encourages us, like Paul, to look
back on our lives and recognize where God's
patient mercy has been shown to us.

HELP WANTED: St. Patrick Players need your support!

The community enthusiasm and support for the Last Supper Tableau held
this past Lenten season has given birth to a new play 'The Christmas Offering' to
be presented in December. This production will include an exciting combination
of drama, music and dance which will be a new experience for St. Patrick Parish.
If you are a patron of the arts and share St. Patrick Players vision of having different age groups work
together, please call Paul at 581-2168 with your donation. Whether large or small, your donation will be used
to upgrade our lighting and sound capabilities which will provide the best audience experience.
SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES:
Our parish, along with many others in the Dio-
cese, will be involved in the Bishop's initiative
on the Eucharist. It is the Bishop's goal,
through this initiative, to help Catholics
throughout the Diocese deepen their relation-
ship to Christ as they celebrate and reflect on
the sacrament of his Body and Blood. This
initiative will begin October 7th with a six-week
faith-sharing program on the Eucharist, enti-
tled "Eucharist-Source and Summit". During this
time we will look at the history of the Eucharist,
different aspects of the Liturgy of the Word and
the Liturgy of the Eucharist, as well as Eucharis-
tic devotion. Sign-up for these groups after all
Masses this weekend. Please prayerfully con-
sider joining a group.

St. Matthew,
St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist
Patron Saint of accountants, bookkeepers and guards
Feast Day: September 21
St. Matthew was a tax collector before
Jesus called him, a position which cost
him the goodwill of other Jews. They
resented Roman taxation and resented
even more those who assisted the
Romans in its collection. But it probably
netted him a substantial income and a
q u i t e c o m f o r t a b l e l i f e s t y l e .
Nevertheless, he left it all behind to
follow Jesus. St. Bede says of Matthew,
"There is no reason for surprise that the
tax collector abandoned earthly wealth
as soon as the Lord commanded him.
Nor should one be amazed that
neglecting his wealth, he joined a band of men whose leader
had, on Matthew's assessment, no riches at all. Christ, who
was summoning him away from earthly possessions, had
incorruptible treasures of heaven in his gift." This one-time tax
collector is celebrated today as apostle and evangelist, the
author of the Gospel of Matthew, and missionary to Persia and
Ethiopia. Would anyone today even remember his name if he
had not left "the good life" behind to follow Jesus? May the
example of St. Matthew remind us that God always rewards
many-fold whatever sacrifices we must make to follow him.
