My Dear Friends in Christ,
Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The highest point of the
Gospel's irony is seen in today's reading, Jesus before Pilate. Pilate was the
representative of Rome. His palace, his garb, his demeanor radiated the power
of the Roman Empire. Jesus was a commoner, an itinerant preacher, a
carpenter. There was nothing about him that would throw a powerful man in fear. Jesus
held no titles. He was not supported by an army. He didn't even wear armor or carry a
sword. So here was this weak Jesus, standing before the powerful Pilate. Was Pilate
mocking Jesus or intrigued when he asked him, "Are you a king?" We don't know. But
we do know that Jesus' answer threw Pilate for a loop: "You yourself say that I am a
king. For this I have come, to testify to the truth."
To testify to the truth. That is what true royalty is about. This Feast of Christ the
King is about testifying to the truth. It is about integrity. The powerful Pilate could have
Jesus tortured and killed, and he did, but Pilate himself remained a prisoner because he
lived a lie. And Jesus remained a King because he testified to the truth to his last breath.
"Then you are a King?" Pilate asked. And Jesus answered, "You say that I am a
king. For this was I born...to testify to the truth." This gospel, on the feast of Christ the
King, reminds us that each of us was born for this same reason: to testify to the
truth. And what is the truth? Jesus Christ is the Truth, and the Way, and the Life.
Today we also celebrate the last Sunday in Ordinary Time. Next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent and the
start of the new liturgical year. How exciting for us to reflect on Christ as Lord of our lives today, and to remember
how this great king entered this world in utmost poverty, as we prepare for His coming this Advent season.
Today, at the Cathedral, Bishop Lynch will award the St. Jude Medal. Each parish nominates
a candidate who goes above and beyond the call to service. As I mentioned in a previous
bulletin, this year our award goes to Mrs. Janet Friederich. Please congratulate her if you see her
or attend the service at the Cathedral of St. Jude at 3 p.m.
Next Sunday we will have the Rite of Welcome for members of the RCIA, those men and
women who are discerning coming into the Catholic Church possibly at the Easter Vigil. In this
Rite we welcome them to continue to learn more about the Faith and assure them of our prayers
in this journey of faith.
Praised Be Jesus Christ!

Dear Parishioners of St. Patrick,
A very special Thank You to all of you, our faithful and generous
parishioners, who donated food and gift certificates for families in need this year. We received bags
of food, over 20 turkeys, about 50 gift cards for turkeys and monies that have helped over 100 fami-
lies enjoy a very blessed Thanksgiving Day meal as well as provide for the weeks following. On be-
half of them, we give thanks to you and pray God's blessings upon you.
A very special Thank You to all of our volunteers from the many different ministries who
helped with our Thanksgiving Day Food Drive members of our community, High School & Junior
High youth who helped distribute bags, collect and sort the food, school children and parents, parish families and especially
all of our Helping Hands volunteers. This truly was the product of a parish and school family at work together.
Thank you, too, for the collection on Thanksgiving Day which was offered for our Sister Parish in El Salvador. On be-
half of Fr. Napoleon and Fr. Raphael and our Sister Parish family, we greatly appreciate your contin-
ued support of St. Francis of Assisi in Gotera. Please continue to remember in your prayers our broth-
ers and sisters in El Salvador.
A Mass will be offered for all of your intentions on behalf of our Ministry of Helping Hands
and our Outreach Program. You will also share in the Mass Intentions of our Franciscan
Missionaries throughout the world. May God bless you for your continued generosity to
our brothers and sisters in need, both here and abroad. You are especially remembered in
my prayers.

TRUE STEWARDSHIP
The gospel message proclaimed throughout the New
Testament invites us to live in harmony with the world. This
is a challenge to care for the world and be stewards of all
that God has given us. Like generations before us, we are
entrusted with the care of the earth so that generations to
follow may enjoy the same gifts. Sometimes, however, we
are absorbed into the ways of the world. When we are of
the world, we rely heavily on the power of wealth, beauty,
fame, and accumulation of mate-
rial possessions. We want earthly
possessions and carelessly turn
our hearts from the responsibilities
of stewardship and conservation.
The readings today challenge
us to walk away from the world so
that we might inherit our share of
God's kingdom. How we live our
lives directly reflects our love for
God.
First Reading --
The days are coming when the
L
ORD
will fulfill the promise made to Israel and
Judah (Jeremiah 33:14-16).
Psalm --
To you, O Lord, I lift my soul (Psalm
25).
Second Reading --
Abound in love for one an-
other and for all (1 Thessalonians 3:12 - 4:2).
Gospel --
Stand erect and raise your heads; your
redemption is at hand (Luke 21:25-28, 34-36).
How will I allow "listening time" to hear God's
call during this hurried time of year?
Let us not forget the less fortunate
as Jesus is also present in them.

Married Couples
A new car which is polished, cleaned, the oil
changed and maintained well, runs and looks
great. But without the continued care and main-
tenance, it can become a rusty pile of undepend-
able transportation. Marriages, too, are bright
and shining when new, but they also need to be
maintained and polished or they lose their bright
shine and glow. Which is more important, your
car ... or your marriage relationship?
The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter
weekend is January 26-28. For more information
about other upcoming dates or to register go
online at www.wwme-tampabay.org or call the
Fuhlers at 813-270-7832.
Holiday Depression and Grief
This annual workshop at St. Jerome's will provide
information on handling grief during the holidays,
seasonal affective disorder and the holiday blues.
Learn a variety of strategies that can help you get
through the season. This workshop will be held
on Saturday, December 9th from 10 am to 12
noon in the Education Building. To register, con-
tact Dr. Lori Puterbaugh at 559-0863.
St. Andrew, the fisherman, was
among the first to hear and answer the
call of Christ. "Come, follow me,"
Jesus said, "and I will make you
fishers of men." Andrew came and
followed and invited others to do the
s a m e . T h a t w a s g o o d
stewardship. St. John Chrysostom
says, "After Andrew had stayed with
Jesus and had learned much from
him, he did not keep this treasure to
himself, but hastened to share it with
his brother." In the Gospel story of the feeding of the
multitude (Jn 6:5-13) we get another glimpse of St.
Andrew. He gets to be the "straight man" in one of the most
powerful demonstrations of stewardship ever
witnessed. Seeing the crowd, Jesus asked the disciples,
"Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?" Philip
calculates the cost and says ruefully, "Two hundred days'
wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them
to have a little." But it is Andrew who offers, "There is a
boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But," he
continues, "what good are these for so many?" The answer
Jesus demonstrates as he gives thanks and distributes the
boy's bread is that God's gifts, shared, will always be more
than enough. What gifts are mine to share?
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR GIFT SHOP!

PM. We have many beautiful items (rosaries, neck-
laces, Bibles, holy cards, etc). We need volunteers to

You are invited to Godspell the Musical
As the Christmas season approaches, Saint
Leo University Ministry is offering Godspell the
Musical, an upbeat celebration based on the
Gospel of Matthew. This life of Jesus contains
familiar songs as "Day by Day", and "Prepare Ye
the Way of the Lord". Godspell teaches a great
message and brings joy to all those who watch it.
What a great way to prepare for Christmas.
