Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King! I want to thank all who
participated in the Thanksgiving dinner here at the parish. A great time was had by all
participants and volunteers. Hopefully this can become an annual event.
"
When the Son of Man comes in his glory, escorted by all the angels of heaven, he
will sit upon his royal throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him
." (Mt 25)
We worship Jesus Christ as Lord and King because he is victorious in the battle over sin
and death. In His resurrection, which we celebrate and in which we participate at every
Eucharistic Sacrifice, our Lord established His rule over all creation, and overcame in
Himself the effects of the sin of Adam. Christ is Lord, for he has conquered what we fear most and have no
power against, the cruel and bitter specter of death. We cannot but exult and shout for joy with the knowledge
that we can share in His Resurrection. We share in the Resurrection in the first place by meeting Christ in the
liturgy, in Word and Sacrament. The Christ we receive in the Eucharist is the Easter Christ, the risen and
glorified Christ as he is now victoriously seated at the right hand of the Father in glory.
The lesson of the final judgment in St. Matthew's Gospel, chapter 25, verses thirty-one to forty-six, makes
clear that we are to seek out and to meet Christ wherever he may be found, in a particular way in human life in all
its stages and conditions. "
Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to
me.
" (Mt 25:40)
The Lord associates himself in a mysterious way with the poor. We may have great reverence for His true and
real presence in the Blessed Sacrament, and are called to love him with our whole heart, mind soul and strength.
Yet, we cannot please God or love Him as we ought if we fail to love our neighbor as our self, doing so for love
of Christ. The divine love and life poured out abundantly in the Eucharist is given both for love of God and love
of neighbor.
The Catechism teaches that the requirement of charity for our neighbor flows from the presence of Christ by
the power of his word and the Holy Spirit.
Our Lord Jesus has given His Body and Blood to us precisely so that we may
overflow with the same love for others that he has first given to us. It is for this reason that
he will judge us at the end of the world on the ways in which we have generously and self-
sacrificingly offered ourselves for the life of others in imitation of the way in which He
gives of His own life unceasingly for His bride, the Church.
It is fashionable today to take up such causes as feeding the hungry, building shelter
for the homeless, clothing the naked, giving drink to the thirsty. These are good and
necessary, and a sign that Christ is at work among many men and women of good will.
There remain, however, the many who are neglected, abandoned, whose lives are
threatened. The Christian will be praised for feeding, clothing and helping the poor, for
being with the lonely. These are good works and they must be taken up by the Christian
community together with all men and women of good will. The Christian, however, is condemned and attacked
for recognizing that these works of charity should also be extended to the confused and rejected young mother, to
the unborn child, to the terminally ill, and to all those whose lives are determined to be not worth living.
The kingdom of Christ, a reign of charity and peace, is for all. The Lord sends us out as his disciples so that
all mankind may be brought under his reign in the world. We, the baptized, are the agents through whom the
social kingship of Christ will be realized. Our baptism is our commission and our grace for the apostolate.
Praise Be Jesus Christ!
Fr. Pecchie
JMJ
`Christ Jesus who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed
intercedes for us,' is present in many ways to his Church: (Rom 8:34) in his word, in his Church's
prayer, 'where two or three are gathered in my name,' (Mt 18:20) in the poor, the sick, and the
imprisoned, (Mt 25:31-46) in the sacraments of which he is the author, in the sacrifice of the Mass, and
in the person of the minister. But 'he is present...most especially in the Eucharistic species'.
(CCC 1373)
p.s. As I wrote last week Don Moffat will be receiving the St. Jude Award
Medal at the Cathedral today at 3 p.m.
First Reading -- All the peoples shall stream
toward the L
ORD
's house (Isaiah 2:1-5).
Psalm -- Let us go rejoicing to the house of
the Lord (Psalm 122).
Second Reading -- It is the hour to cast off
the dark and clothe ourselves in the light
(Romans 13:1114).
Gospel -- Stay awake! Be prepared! The Son
of Man will come when you least expect
(Matthew 24:37-44).
Stay awake during this Advent Season
and focus on Jesus who is coming.
Let us spend more time in prayer and
become more patient and loving,
while aware of others' feelings and needs.
We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ all year!
KINGSHIP
The book of Samuel recounts for us today the anointing of David
as king of Israel. It was the elders of Israel who declared David king
that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus
mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took
his place in a long line of kings.
The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much
higher plane: the kingship of Jesus
our Lord. As great as David was, he
and all earthly monarchs who came
before and after him in their
kingdoms around the world are minor
kings by comparison to the true King.
And lastly, we hear the story of that
true King in perhaps his weakest
moment: near death, hanging on a
cross, taunted by a common criminal
and by the world at large.

Canada next June. The CD will sell for $15 each and
could be a perfect gift for the Christmas stockings.
May God continue to bless our music ministry!

St. Andrew
St. Andrew
St. Andrew
St. Andrew, Apostle
Patron Saint of Fisherman, golfers
Feast Day: November 30
St. Andrew, the fisherman, was
among the first to hear and answer
the call of Christ. "Come, follow
me," Jesus said, "and I will make
you fishers of men." Andrew came
and followed and invited others to
do the same. That was good
stewardship. St. John Chrysostom
says, "After Andrew had stayed with
Jesus and had learned much from him, he did not keep this
treasure to himself, but hastened to share it with his
brother." In the Gospel story of the feeding of the multitude
(Jn 6:5-13) we get another glimpse of St. Andrew. He gets
to be the "straight man" in one of the most powerful
demonstrations of stewardship ever witnessed. Seeing the
crowd, Jesus asked the disciples, "Where can we buy enough
food for them to eat?" Philip calculates the cost and says
ruefully, "Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not
be enough for each of them to have a little." But it is
Andrew who offers, "There is a boy here who has five barley
loaves and two fish. But," he continues, "what good are
these for so many?" The answer Jesus demonstrates as he
gives thanks and distributes the boy's bread is that God's
gifts, shared, will always be more than enough. What gifts
are mine to share?
INSTRUCTIONS FOR GIVING TREE
1. Find an angel on the tree that matches with your ability to provide Christmas gifts for EVERY
PERSON on the angel. Take it home with you.
2. Shop for your "angels" and bring all UNWRAPPED gifts back to church the weekend of December
15
th
and 16
th
. Clearly label them with the # found on your angel.
3. Please DO NOT take an angel from the tree if you cannot provide for every person listed on it. We have another way
for you to help! (see below)
Can I contribute a toy or clothing without taking an angel? GREAT! These single donations can be very helpful if
we find out about last minute needs, or if we must "fill in" on other Angels that didn't get much. Simply bring in your
donation when you come to Mass on the weekend of Dec. 15
th
and 16
th
, and we will be certain to find it a needy home.
Are Gift Cards an Option? Absolutely! Parents and foster parents often welcome these as it gives them the means to
go out and buy what they know the child is really longing for.
Should I attach receipts? This is not necessary, but is appreciated when possible in case clothing sizes are not
correct. Simply tape them to the item.
