My Dear Friends in Christ,
Next weekend we celebrate the feast of Christ the King and the last
Sunday of our liturgical year. As is the custom in the Diocese of St.
Petersburg, Bishop Lynch will award the St. Jude Medal to a parishioner
from each parish. This award is given to a parishioner who exhibits a great dedication
to the Catholic faith and to the parish community. I am happy to inform you that this
year's recipient is Donald Moffat.
Don has been a member of St. Patrick since 1974 and a convert to the Catholic
faith from St. Peters Church in Staten Island, NY. Don has been a man on the move
serving our Lord. This call to service has benefited our parish family for the past 33
years. Don has been a reader at weekend and morning Mass since 1976, in the first
group of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, installed by Msgr. McCall, and
continues to serve at Mass on Sundays and weekdays in this capacity. As an
Extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, Don has visited the homebound and the
sick at Largo Medical, Suncoast Hospital, in prison and among the various nursing
homes in the area. He takes his need to learn about God and his faith seriously. He has completed the Catechist
Certification program of the diocese, using it to aid in his teaching Religious Education in our parish. He has also
completed the Lay Pastoral Ministry Program of the diocese. Don is a 4
th
degree Knight of Columbus and a third
order Dominican. We have been blessed by Don's commitment to the Faith and his willingness to serve the Lord
through his involvement in the parish. Let us thank Don for allowing himself to be used by the Lord. He will
receive the St. Jude Medal from the Bishop at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle at 3 p.m. on November 25
th
.
All are welcome to attend.
How fitting that in today's second reading, St. Paul tells us that he worked
"night and day." Definitely we can see how Don Moffat epitomizes this scripture.
You and I might be tempted to say, "Well, good for him." The problem is that the
Apostle mentions this to be, not just as a personal choice, but also as a "model" for
us, an example he wants us to follow.
Now, I don't think Paul was an early version of the American workaholic.
On the contrary, in the course of his long voyages, he found plenty of time for
quiet reflection, study, writing, conversation, stargazing and other activities we
would call "leisure." And when he did settle in a city for a few months or a few
years, he spent time getting to know the people and the lay of the land.
To earn a living, St. Paul made tents. He did not shrink from manual labor and the organizational tasks
involved in operating a small business. Besides the work involved in making a good product, the tent-making
business required constant attentiveness, planning and follow through. He had to keep track of his tools and
inventory, study the market and cultivate clients. He worked night and day, but, even so, his business did not
absorb every moment of his time. He had a deeper focus: bringing Jesus' saving love to every person he could.
St. Paul's example speaks volumes about Stewardship. It doesn't matter whether you are part of a profession
or part of the service industry, whether you are a student or retired you are called to work night and day. That is,
God asks you to recognize that every moment belongs to him. Give every moment to God and you will be
amazed: He will give you time for legitimate leisure and the opportunity to make a living by providing a needed
service to others. Above all, he will open doors so that you can help someone receive Christ's saving love.
On behalf of the staff of St. Patrick, Fr. Prakash, and myself, I want to wish you a Blessed Thanksgiving. May
we enjoy our time with our family and friends and truly give thanks with a grateful heart to the Lord who bestows
on us every blessing in the heavens!
Praise Be Jesus Christ!

Bless the food upon the dishes
as you blessed the loaves and fishes.
As the sugar hides in the tea,
let me hide myself in Thee. Amen
The RECTORY OFFICE will be CLOSED all day on NOV. 22nd & 23rd.
First Reading -- The Lord said to David,
"You shall shepherd my people Israel" (2
Samuel 5:1-3).
Psalm -- Let us go rejoicing to the house of
the Lord (Psalm 122).
Second Reading -- Thanks to the Father
who has made you fit to share in the
inheritance of the holy ones in light
(Colossians 1:12-20).
Gospel -- Jesus, remember me when you
come into your kingdom (Luke 23:35-43).
Do I have a crucifix prominently displayed
in my home to remind me of how Christ
died for me? Do I pray for and help those
who carry heavy crosses each day?
We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ all year!
GOD'S HEALING JUSTICE
An old expression holds that the sun-warmed stone heals.
Perhaps. But Malachi explains that only dark, sunless days are in
store for those who do not find a place for God in their lives.
Conversely, he tells us that the warmth and light of God's healing
justice await those who fear the Lord. That's a pretty comforting
notion--especially now in the already short and growing even shorter
days of November. It's the sun-warmed stone,
and then some.
Paul speaks to us of justice as well, but
points out that it is not a passive thing. To be
treated justly, we need to do our fair share. If we
are diligent and persevere we will be rewarded
with and by the fruits of our labor. Lastly, Luke,
too, tells us to persevere in faith, this time
and our lives will be secure in God regardless of
how we are treated by our enemies.

Presentation of Mary
Feast Day: November 21
On this Feast Day we
remember and rejoice in the
Blessed Virgin Mar y's
consecration to God. Scripture is silent on the subject, but
tradition tells us that Mary's parents, Joachim and Ann,
brought her to the Temple and presented her to the
Lord. Whether or not the story is historically accurate is less
important than the truth it illustrates: "From the beginning of
[Mary's] life, she was dedicated to God. She herself
became a greater temple than any made by hands. God
came to dwell in her in a marvelous manner and sanctified
her for her unique role in God's saving work." St. Augustine
reminds us, "The blessed Mary certainly did the Father's
will, and so it was for her a greater thing to have been
Christ's disciple than to have been his mother, and she was
more blessed in her discipleship than in her
motherhood." By offering her whole self, Mary became the
complete disciple, the perfect steward. The U.S. bishops say,
"After Jesus, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary who by her
example most perfectly teaches the meaning of discipleship
and stewardship in their fullest sense."
INSTRUCTIONS FOR GIVING TREE
1. Find an angel on the tree that matches with your ability to provide Christmas gifts for EVERY PERSON on the angel.
Take it home with you.
2. Shop for your "angels" and bring all UNWRAPPED gifts back to church the weekend of December 15
th
and 16
th
.
Clearly label them with the # found on your angel.
3. Please DO NOT take an angel from the tree if you cannot provide for every person listed on it. We have another way
for you to help! (see below)
Can I contribute a toy or clothing without taking an angel? GREAT! These single donations can be very helpful if
we find out about last minute needs, or if we must "fill in" on baskets that didn't get quite enough. Simply bring in your
donation when you come to Mass on the weekend of Dec. 15
th
and 16
th
, and we will be certain to find it a needy home.
Are Gift Cards an Option? Absolutely! Parents and foster parents often welcome these as it gives them the means to
go out and buy what they know the child is really longing for.
Should I attach receipts? This is not necessary, but is appreciated when possible in case clothing sizes are not
correct. Simply tape them to the item.
A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU
OUR PARISHIONERS
WHO GAVE OF YOUR
TIME, TALENT, AND TREASURE

MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
AND GOODNESS TO GOD'S PEOPLE IN NEED.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! God bless you all!
THE GIVING TREE will be placed in the Church in the coming weeks for Advent.
Please consider taking an Angel and helping a deserving child with a Christmas gift.
The Christmas Angels are either from the Safe Family Coalition or from our own parish
and school. Thank You for giving!
