6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER
My Dear Friends in Christ,
First, I would like to wish all mothers here a Happy Mother's Day,
remembering especially our spiritual mother, Mary, who leads us
ever closer to her Son Jesus Christ! It is fitting that on this Mother's Day we
would crown Mary as our mother and queen at the 9 AM and 11 AM Masses.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our
death.
Recently, I had several parishioners concerned about the new summer Mass
Schedule and time changes. Again, it was not an easy decision to come to,
but looking at the numbers in good conscience, and being a good steward of
the finances entrusted to me for this parish, consolidating the Masses makes the best sense. As for why I
did not just drop the 7:30 AM and keep the 9 AM & 11 AM for the summer, it was a matter of principle
and justice. Instead of one group being disaffected by dropping "their Mass" we all have the opportunity
to offer a sacrifice and readjust ourselves to a new schedule. Please remember that the new schedule is as
follows for Sunday mornings: 8 AM & 10 AM starting June 3
rd
. All evening Masses on Saturday and
Sunday remain the same.
As many of you know already, Msgr. Malanowski will be retiring back to his home state of
Connecticut. Monsignor has been a constant presence here for over a decade and survived
working with three pastors. That says much about the caliber of man that Monsignor is. As a
way to express our appreciation for his 14+ years of service to us at St. Patrick, we will be having a
breakfast on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 after the 7:30 AM Mass in Msgr. McCall Hall. Msgr. Malanowski
will celebrate the Mass before the breakfast on this day. I hope many of you will have an opportunity to
come and say good-bye and thank you to him.
Before his Passover, Jesus announced the sending of "another Paraclete" (Advocate),
the Holy Spirit. At work since creation, having previously "spoken through the
prophets," the Spirit will now be with and in the disciples, to teach them and guide them
"into all truth." The Holy Spirit is thus revealed as another divine person with Jesus
and the Father. (CCC 243)
Alleluia Christ is Risen!
Fr. Pecchie
JMJ
Please note that beginning June 1st, we will be moving to
our SUMMER SCHEDULE OF MASSES:

Weekdays: 8 AM only (Monday - Saturday morning)
Weekends: Saturday - 4:30 PM Vigil
Sunday - 8 AM, 10 AM and 5:30 PM
St. Patrick Church Community Welcomes You!
We extend a special welcome to all new parishioners and visitors who have come to
worship with us. We would like to invite you to a newcomer orientation
and breakfast on Sunday June 1
st
after the 10:00 AM Mass. If you have
registered in the parish this past year, or would like to register, please join us. At this time you will have the
opportunity to meet with our pastor, Fr. Pecchie, and other ministry representatives, as well as learn
about various ministries and organizations. If you have any questions, please contact the parish office.

Parish & Evangelization - Page Three

First Reading -- Jesus tells the disciples
that they will be witnesses to the ends of
the earth (Acts 1:1-11).
Psalm -- God mounts his throne to shouts
of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord
(Psalm 47).
Second Reading -- God seated Jesus at his
right hand in the heavens (Ephesians 1:17-
23) or Hebrews 9:24-28; 10:19-23.
Gospel -- Jesus raised his hands and blessed
his disciples; as he blessed them he parted
from them and was taken up to heaven
(Luke 24:46-53).
As a disciple of Jesus, how am I a witness to
the life of Christ in my daily living?
Do I make enough time to come
to Church to praise and thank God?

We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ all year!
THE GIFT OF PEACE
We are offered another vision in today's second reading, a
vision of the New Jerusalem, "coming down out of heaven from
God" (Revelation 21:10). Read between the lines describing the
radiant city, and we find that the greatest beauty revealed is the
beauty of perfect symmetry and order, a city founded on the faith of
the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve Apostles, lit only by the
glory of God.
The first reading and the Gospel are linked to this idealized
description of the New Jerusalem. In both we read of distress and
disturbance countered by the gift of peace. "My peace I give to
you," Jesus assures his disciples at the
Last Supper (John 14:27). In keeping
with that gift, the apostles and elders,
in the reading from Acts, decide not
to disturb the peace of new Gentile
believers. The undue burden of
circumcision will not be imposed on
them.

St. Matthias
St. Matthias
St. Matthias
St. Matthias, Apostle
Feast Day: May 14
After the Ascension of Jesus, the
disciples gathered to fill the position
left by the death of Judas. "It is
necessary," St. Peter said, "that
one of the men who accompanied
us the whole time the Lord Jesus
came and went among us,
beginning from the baptism of John
until the day on which he was taken
up from us, become with us a
witness to his resurrection." St. Matthias was
nominated and, after the apostles prayed and drew
lots, was chosen by God. Clearly, the call to be an
apostle is a privileged grace, a gift from God. Our
Christian vocation is specific and personal, too. St.
Matthias' most important "qualification" for the job was
that he had been with Jesus from the beginning. Our
discipleship, too, is dependent upon our "being with"
Jesus -- the better we know him, the more effective we
will be at inviting others to come to know him. But, like
St. Matthias, we have not chosen him; he has chosen
us. Lord, thank you for counting us among those
you have chosen to receive the gift of faith. May
our willingness to share that gift with others be a
sign of our gratitude.
