My Dear Friends in Christ,
I would like to wish all Mothers and Grandmothers and
Great Grandmothers a very Blessed Mother's Day. It is a
known fact that the faith of children is handed on primarily by the
mother and should be supported and sustained by the Father. We ask
the Lord to continue to bless these women in their awesome vocation.
I want to thank all who have participated and continue to
participate in our Remember, Respond and Renew Campaign. I am overwhelmed by your
generosity and ask those who have not yet made a pledge to please do so. Christ is our Hope as I shared with
you on our commitment weekend. To again show you this fact: one pledge we received on commitment
Sunday was from one of our regular middle school parishioners who made a three-year pledge of a sizable
amount for a person that age. I am grateful for this sacrifice, and I am inspired by this trust in God's
Providence. As Jesus said so beautifully, "Unless you become like a little child ..."
Some news to report on the parish side: This past month, our Sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro have
moved closer to St. Patrick. The convent we were renting from the diocese was located in Clearwater and in
the parish of Light of Christ. It was a 25 minute ride, on a good day. With the cost of gas continuing to get out
of control and our responsibility to pay for all repairs and upkeep at this site, it was becoming financially
burdensome. Unbeknownst to me, the Sisters were praying to move closer. I was able to rent a duplex on 22
nd
Street, 500 yards from the Church property. The duplex is owned by a parishioner, and she gave us a break on
the rent, for which the sisters and I are most grateful! Now,
the sisters can be here at St. Patrick within a minute. God is
so good!
Today we hear that the apostles, imprisoned and
bound by fear, have locked themselves into the upper room,
and that "Jesus came and stood before them...Then he
breathed on them and said: `Receive the Holy Spirit. If
you forgive men's sins, they are forgiven them; if you hold
them bound, they are held bound.' "
Today, on the Solemnity of Pentecost, we celebrate
the Divine gift of the third person of the Blessed Trinity, the
Holy Spirit. What does this gift mean to the Church? This
gift means that the peace of Christ is always ours with the forgiveness of our sins. The Catechism of the
Catholic Church (CCC) teaches us what the Church has always believed when we say in the Creed: "I believe
in the forgiveness of sins," our gift for salvation in the Holy Spirit. The Creed links "the forgiveness of sins"
with its profession of faith in the Holy Spirit, for the risen Christ entrusted to the apostles the power to forgive
sins when he gave them the Holy Spirit.
If you would be preserved "from all anxiety", as
we pray in the Mass, regularly practice the
Sacrament of Confession. The Holy Spirit will
give you the peace of confidence in Christ's
saving passion and Resurrection.
Praised Be Jesus Christ!
Fr. Pecchie

Pentecost Sunday
Baptism is the first and chief sacrament of the forgiveness of sins: it unites us to Christ, who died and rose, and
gives us the Holy Spirit. By Christ's will, the Church possesses the power to forgive the sins of the baptized and
exercises it through bishops and priests normally in the sacrament of Penance. In the forgiveness of sins, both
priests and sacraments are instruments which our Lord Jesus Christ, the only author and liberal giver of salvation,
wills to use in order to efface our sins and give us the grace of justification. (CCC 984-987)
First Reading -- The L
ORD
, merciful and
gracious, rich in kindness and faithfulness
(Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9).
Psalm -- Glory and praise for ever! (Daniel 3).
Second Reading -- Brothers and sisters,
rejoice. Live with one another in peace, and
the God of peace will be with you (2
Corinthians 13:11-13).
Gospel -- God did not send the Son to
condemn the world, but to give it abundant
life (John 3:16-18).
Are there persons in my parish or workplace
that are judged more than accepted?
Lord, let me always look for the good
in others and cease condemning them.
We are . . .
Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ
SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT
Last week we heard that,
following the Ascension, the disciples,
Mary, and other followers of the Lord
retreated to the upper room in prayer.
This week we hear that, while praying
in that room, the Holy Spirit comes
upon them. Jesus' post-Resurrection
promise, recounted in today's Gospel,
is fulfilled: the power of the Holy
Spirit comes upon Jesus' followers.
Saint Paul tells us that all of us, in
some way, are given gifts of the Holy
Spirit, gifts that can be used to spread
the Good News. Today is one of the
Church's greatest festivals.
Let us carry the refrain of the responsorial psalm with us throughout
the coming week: "Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of
the earth!" (Psalm 104:30).

The Blessed Virgin Mary, the
Mother of God, appeared 6 times to
3 shepherd children; Lucy, Fran-
cisco and Jacinta; between May 13
and October 13, 1917. She came to
the little village of Fatima which
had remained faithful to the Catholic
Church during the recent persecu-
tions by the government of Portugal.
She came with a message from God to every man,
woman and child of our century. Our Lady of Fatima
promised that the whole world would be in peace, and that
many souls would go to Heaven if her requests were lis-
tened to and obeyed.
She told us that war is a punishment for sin; that God
would punish the world for its sins in our time by means of
war, hunger, persecution of the Church and persecution of
the Holy Father, the Pope, unless we listened to and obeyed
the command of God.
At Fatima, Pope John Paul II said on May 13; "the
message of Fatima is more relevant and more urgent" than
when Our Lady first appeared. The message is an an-
guished appeal of our Heavenly Mother, who sees us in
great danger and who comes to offer her help and advice.
Her message is also a prophecy, a clear indication of what
was about to transpire in the 20th century, and what is still
going to happen infallibly in the near future, depending on
our response to her requests. The Catholic Church has en-
dorsed the Fatima message since 1930.
As a great sign of this whole message truly coming
from God, the "miracle of the sun" was worked in the sky
above Fatima before 70,000 witnesses on October 13, 1917
at the time, date and place that Lucy and the other two chil-
dren had prophesied in the name of Our Lady of Fatima.
Our Lady of Fatima continues to work miracles today
through Fatima water and at Fatima, about 90 miles north
of Lisbon. Every year, thousands of pilgrims flock to
Fatima to continue our Lady's message of prayer for peace
in the world.
We, the community of
St. Patrick Church
would like to invite you
to worship God with us
in the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass!
