FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTION
TO THE SACRED HEART
SACRED HEART
SACRED HEART
SACRED HEART OF JESUS
JESUS
JESUS
JESUS
The First Friday of each month was designated by our
Savior Himself as a day to be consecrated to honoring His
Sacred Heart ... As the object of this devotion is to make our
Savior Jesus Christ ardently and perfectly loved, and to
make reparation for the outrages
offered to Him in the past, as well as
for those which He daily receives in
the Blessed Eucharist ... Jesus Christ
merits our love at all times, but alas!
He is despised and outraged in the
Sacrament of His love at all times, and
so people should at all times make
reparation to Him. Attendance at the
Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is assuredly
the best means of honoring and loving
the adorable Heart of Jesus.
Our First Friday Mass in honor of the Sacred
Heart will be offered at 6:30 PM on April 4, 2008
as part of St. Patrick's Golden Jubilee celebration.
A covered dish dinner, hosted by the Knights of
Columbus, will follow in Msgr. McCall Hall.
All are invited. Bring your favorite dish to share!

My Dear Friends in Christ,
Resurrexit Dixit!!
It is hard to believe that we are now in the Easter Season. Today we conclude
Easter with the celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday. Easter cannot be contained in just
one day so we need a week to celebrate the joy, the happiness and the love of Christ's rising from
the dead! We have experienced so many wondrous things since Holy Week. We have been
spiritually renewed and blessed by the presence of Fr. Wade and his preaching our Holy Week
mission. It was good to see the Church so crowded for all 5 nights of the mission. But what was
also great to see was so many coming out for the Easter Triduum: Holy Thursday, Good Friday
and Holy Saturday's Easter Vigil. In the three years I have been privileged to celebrate the Sacred Triduum as
your Pastor, this was a record crowd for all three liturgies. How awesome for us to enter sacramentally into the
Lord's Passion, Death and Resurrection.
Today we hear that the apostles, imprisoned and bound by fear, have locked themselves
into the upper room, and that "Jesus came and stood before them...Then he breathed on
them and said:
`
Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive men's sins, they are forgiven them;
if you hold them bound, they are held bound.
'
" In this Easter season, we celebrate the
Divine gift of the third person of the Blessed Trinity, the Holy Spirit, as an outpouring of the Risen Christ. Today
the Church shares in the Resurrection and the life of Christ by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. What does this
gift mean to the Church? The peace of Christ, always ours with the forgiveness of our sins. The Catechism of the
Catholic Church (CCC) teaches us what the Church has always believed when we say in the Creed: "I believe in
the forgiveness of sins," our gift for salvation in the Holy Spirit. The Creed links "the forgiveness of sins" with its
profession of faith in the Holy Spirit, for the risen Christ entrusted to the apostles the power to forgive sins when
he gave them the Holy Spirit. Baptism is the first and chief sacrament of the forgiveness of sins: it
unites us to Christ, who died and rose, and gives us the Holy Spirit. By Christ's will, the Church
possesses the power to forgive the sins of the baptized and exercises it through bishops and priests
normally in the sacrament of Penance. "In the forgiveness of sins, both priests and sacraments are
instruments which our Lord Jesus Christ, the only author and liberal giver of salvation, wills to use
in order to efface our sins and give us the grace of justification." (CCC, 984-987) If you would be
preserved "from all anxiety", as we pray in the Mass, regularly practice the Sacrament of Confession.
The Holy Spirit will give you the peace of confidence in Christ's saving Passion and Resurrection.
Next week, I will be in Mobile, Alabama for the annual meeting of the
Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. Last year, I was privileged to be
welcomed into the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. This is a pontifical order under the
guidance of the Holy Father which has its origins in the 1100's as a chivalric order.
The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem goes back to the first Knights
that were established by Godfrey de Bouillon around the Sepulchre of Our Lord as a guard of
honour immediately after the conquest of Jerusalem in 1099. They were approved as an
Order in a Bull of Approbation by Pope Pascal II in February 1113.
The Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem lasted a little less than a hundred years during which time the crusaders built
many great churches, forts, castles, and cities. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre which they built covers both the
sites of the crucifixion and the tomb of Christ, and it still stands today.
After the fall of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem the great Orders of Knighthood were dispersed and modified
in various ways, some becoming monastic, some becoming hospitallers, with many groups remaining for centuries
in the Mediterranean area doing charitable works and others returning to Europe. Throughout the centuries the
Order of the Holy Sepulchre managed to retain its identity, establishing houses in France, Spain, Poland, Belgium,
and Italy.
The modern history of the Order began with the restoration of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem in 1847. The
reigning Pontiff, Pius IX, established the Order's four classes of Knighthood. The four classes are: Knight, Knight
Commander, Knight Commander with star, and Knight Grand Cross. It is interesting to note with
our present societies greater appreciation of the uniqueness and greatness of women, that many
years ago Pope Leo XIII authorized the conferring of the honours of the Order with equivalent
ranks and dignity to women, who were then styled Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre.
The Order's principal objectives are to revive in modern form the spirit and ideas of the
Crusades, undertake and assist religious, charitable, cultural, and social projects in their own
diocese and country, and to preserve the rights of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land.
Praised be Jesus Christ! ~

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
First Reading -- Peter proclaimed to the
crowds: God has raised the crucified Jesus,
who now pours forth the Holy Spirit upon us
(Acts 2:14, 22-33).
Psalm -- Lord, you will show us the path of
life (Psalm 16).
Second Reading -- Our faith and hope are not
in the passing allure of silver or gold, but in
God who raised Jesus from the dead (1 Peter
1:17-21).
Gospel -- On the evening of the first day of the
week, through his words and in the breaking of
the bread, the risen Christ made himself known
to two disciples on their way to Emmaus (Luke
24:13-35).
Do I always recognize Christ in others
or do I treat them unkindly or ignore them?
Lord, open my eyes that I, too,
may always be aware of your presence.

Sharing our Faith in Christ
A SEASON OF JOY
"They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to
the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the
prayers" (Acts 2:42). This first line of today's first reading sets the
tone as this fifty-day celebration of Easter opens before us. Today
we listen to the teachings of three apostles
Luke, Peter, and John who remind us
that even though we have not seen Christ,
we nonetheless are filled with joy as we
place our belief in his saving death and
resurrection. Each week during the Easter
season we will gather as a community of
faith to find strength and support from our
God and from one another. Each week we
will gather to break bread and offer the
great prayer of thanksgiving, actions that
will manifest the very presence of the
risen Christ in our midst. Let us be open
to the wonders of this season of joy.

The Angelus
- prayed traditionally at 6 AM, Noon & 6 PM,
outside the Easter Season (when replaced by Regina Caeli)
The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
R/. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee,
blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. ...
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Behold the handmaid of the Lord:
R/. Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary . . . Holy Mary, ...
And the Word was made Flesh:
R/. And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary . . . Holy, Mary, ...
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
R/. that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our
hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son,
was made known by the message of an angel, may by His
Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His
Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
