My Dear Friends in Christ,

The tragedy greater than all others is to be blind and to say that we can see.
There are so many areas where we are perilously blind to the ways in which
our actions, words, thoughts and desires have jeopardized our eternal salvation. Our
redemption in Christ must begin with an honest assessment of our fallen nature, with
our intellects darkened and our wills weakened, wounded by the effects of the sin of
Adam and Eve.
We dread to hear our Lord speak these words in judgment of us:
"'But we see', you
say, and your sin remains."
Self-righteousness and hypocritical posturing are abhorrent to God, who
favors us when we embrace our true place before him as Our Lady does, one of humility and gratitude, of
praise and thanksgiving. This is accomplished by heeding the Lord's call for repentance through
authentic conversion.
The Catechism illuminates the teaching of our Lord.
Our Lenten journey toward Easter cannot be complete without the fullness of God's mercy granted in
sacramental Confession. Since all are with sin, all are in need of repentance. In Lent we must let the
scales fall from our eyes, to see ourselves as we truly are before our thrice-holy God. Whether or not we
are conscious of mortal sin, Confession always grants the graces of Christ to the repentant sinner.
Praised Be Jesus Christ,
Fr. Pecchie
PS. Reminder we have Stations of the Cross each Friday at 2pm & 7pm please join us as we accompany
our Lord on His Journey to Calvary.
A note regarding the Crucifix: I was hoping that we would have our new Crucifix by now. I have just
recently learned that the company, in Italy, had decided to close for their Christmas Holiday the whole
month of December. Obviously closing for a month has put all orders behind. We can expect the
Crucifix to arrive in April. As the saying goes good things come to those who wait and it seems that
this will be a very good thing that we will be getting. Let us pray that all goes well.
PSII. Regarding the use of Latin in the Mass
Recently a question has been raised by several parishioners asking why Latin responses are used
during Lent which causes the congregation to be unable to sing. First, it must be remembered
that Latin is the official language of the Church and Pope Benedict XVI desires that all Catholics
should know the basic responses to the Mass in Latin. Second, I do not see why the congregation cannot sing
along. The music board has the number where the Latin responses can be found so all can sing, but that would
require some to pick up a hymnal. Lastly, it can be seen as a fasting. For those who long to sing again in English,
it is a reminder that our longing for God should be even greater than the longing for singing in English.
JMJ
Conversion is accomplished in daily life by gestures of reconciliation, concern for the poor, the exercise and
defense of justice and right, (Cf. Am 5:24; Is 1:17.) by the admission of faults to one's brethren, fraternal
correction, revision of life, examination of conscience, spiritual direction, acceptance of suffering,
endurance of persecution for the sake of righteousness. Taking up one's cross each day and following Jesus
is the surest way of penance. (Cf. Lk 9:23.) (CCC 1435
CCC 1435
CCC 1435
CCC 1435)
Jesus scandalized the Pharisees by eating with tax collectors and sinners as familiarly as with themselves. (Lk
5:30) Against those among them 'who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others,"
Jesus affirmed: 'I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.' (Lk 18:9) He went further
by proclaiming before the Pharisees that, since sin is universal, those who pretend not to need salvation are
blind to themselves. (Jn 8:33-36; 9:40-41) (CCC

First Reading --
Thus says the Lord G
OD
: I
will open your graves, have you rise from them,
and settle you on your land. (Ezekiel 37:12-14).
Psalm --
With the Lord there is mercy and
fullness of redemption (Psalm 130).
Second Reading --
If Christ is in you, the spirit
is alive even if the body is dead because of sin
(Romans 8:8-11).
Gospel --
Lazarus, dead four days, comes out
of his tomb when Jesus calls his name.
(John 11:1-45 [3-7, 17, 20-27, 33b-45]).
Am I still bound by failures, frustrations,
disappointments and sinful acts,
from which I need to be set free?
Lord, help us each day to walk in the light
and hope of the Resurrection.
We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ
CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT
The future king, David, in today's first
reading, is an example of a type of character
present throughout the Hebrew scriptures. He
is the child born out of place (not the eldest
or most favored) who ends up receiving the
promise of the covenant. The spirit of God's
anointing rushes upon him. In this way, he is
similar to the man born blind from today's
Gospel. David's family and the blind man's community did not
expect the miraculous grace of God's love to work through them.
Perhaps they, too, were "blinded" by the expectations and
assumptions of those around them. Yet, after being touched by
God, they both came to "see" the presence of God's will for them.
Both became messengers of God's will. That same Spirit of God's
anointing rushed upon us at our baptism; we were given a candle as
a sign of our membership in the Body of Christ, the Light from
Light. Our vocation, then, is to fulfill that enlightenment, that
anointing, as Ephesians tells us, by living as "children of the light."

a continuous period of 40 hours, signifying the time Christ spent in the tomb between Good
Friday and Easter morning. Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place after
the 11:30 AM Mass on March 9th with continuous round-the-clock Eucharistic Adoration in our
chapel, until we conclude with Solemn Benediction at 8 AM on March 11th. Mark your

PARISH MISSION PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we humbly beseech You to make us more faithful sons and daughters of Your Son's Church.
Help us to be vibrant, knowledgeable Catholics living in the midst of the modern world, so that we may be
beacons of light shining forth in defense of the Church's Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and Magisterium
(her teaching authority). Help us always to cultivate the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity in our daily lives,
so that whether single, married or consecrated priests, deacons or Religious, we may always share Your Truth
with others. We ask this through Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. AMEN.
