11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dear Sisters and Brothers,
What a wonderful opportunity I have again, to write a Pastor's
letter. First and foremost, I would like to wish all the fathers a Happy and
Joyful Father's Day. I'm really having a wonderful time here with St. Pat's family. I
feel more and more comfortable and I am really happy to serve you.
On one Friday Evening I felt so hungry and exhausted, so I decided to go to one of
the stores to buy some fresh fruit to satisfy my hunger. So I went to Publix and I picked up my favorite
fruits like organic grapes, papaya, watermelon and some veggies that would help me to watch my weight.
On my way to the cash register my eyes fell on the bottles of wine, so I grabbed one bottle of sweet wine
and I went to the counter to pay the check. Then, the cashier said, "May I look at your ID Sir?"
"What?" I said. She said, "Show me your ID, because you look underage." Oh! My Gosh......I took
my ID out from my wallet in a store for the first time in two and a half years of my life in America. Then
another Lady who was packing my things in the bag said, "You look like a twelve year old kid." This
made me laugh like crazy.
Then on the following day, right after the funeral service at one of the funeral homes, one gentleman
stopped me on my way to the car and said, "You look too young to be a priest." I said, "What?" He said,
"You look like twelve years old." I said to myself, what is happening, people are telling me that I look
like twelve. This happened two days in a row. I can't believe this. Anyway it sounds so funny. So I got
back home and I looked at myself in the mirror. I noticed that I looked like twelve, because I'm losing
weight. Believe me I'm not twelve. I've just turned 34!
A couple of weeks ago, I had a wonderful spiritual retreat and annual meetings at the
Mary Wood Retreat Centre in Jacksonville, along with 13 other priest friends from my
religious community who are working in different dioceses of USA. This retreat centre
was surrounded by huge and beautiful trees and the St. John's River. It's really a very
nice place for prayer and reflection. On the last day we took a field trip to see the
historical town St. Augustine and Kennedy's Space Centre. I had a shuttle launch
experience after a long fuss. Anyway, it was not like the SheiKra ride at Busch
Gardens, which I'll never ever forget and I'll never repeat it again.
On the same day, two of my Indian priest friends who are working in the
Diocese of St. Augustine invited me for a dinner. While we were enjoying the delicious
Indian Dinner, the Bishop sneaked into the kitchen looking for something, and he
turned around and said hello to us. When I introduced myself, he said, "You look to be
a seminarian." I said, "I have just celebrated my 6
th
Ordination anniversary." The
Bishop said you still look like a young seminarian. That really made me laugh.
Anyway, it was a great trip to Jacksonville.
I know it is summer, so most of you have plans to go on vacation to spend some time with family,
friends, visiting the Holy Land and Shrines. Empty pews tell us that some of our friends have already
gone on vacation. I also have plans to go for my vacation very soon. I, too, will be visiting my family. I
am looking forward to seeing my mother, brothers and sisters and their families. I can't wait to see them.
Reflection for the week:
This Sunday's liturgy reminds us that God is generous in forgiving all our sins, if we believe in His
Son, Jesus Christ, and repent for our sins. All God requires from the sinner is faith and repentance. All
of us are in need of God's forgiveness. God loves us so much that we need only
to believe and repent in order to be forgiven.
Lastly, I want to thank all those who helped us in making the Eucharistic
procession more solemn and meaningful last Sunday for the Feast of Corpus
Christi. It was a beautiful celebration!
Wishing all fathers a happy and safe Father's day! God Bless!
Love,
Fr. Prakash Madanu
JMJ

First Reading -- You are a light to the
nations, that the salvation of God may
reach to the ends of the earth (Isaiah
49:1-6).
Psalm -- I praise you for I am
wonderfully made (Psalm 139).
Second Reading -- To us the word of
salvation has been sent (Acts 13:22-
26).
Gospel -- John grew and became
strong in spirit (Luke 1:57-66, 80).
Am I carrying my crosses in the manner
Jesus wishes me to carry them as his
disciple? Do I allow the Eucharist to
sustain my daily crosses better?

HOPE AND FORGIVENESS
There were some interesting conceptions of sin prevalent in the
time of the Hebrew scriptures. There was the belief that God punished
sin immediately. Those who suffered disease or misfortune were,
therefore, sinners getting their due from the Almighty.
Today's first reading hints at another kind of God. When David
admits his sin, Nathan declares, "The L
ORD
on his part has forgiven
your sin" (2 Samuel 12:13b). Here was not a vengeful God but a
merciful God. What good news that must have been to David and those
who, like him, could be honest enough to
admit their sinfulness!
Jesus is the good news of God's mercy
and forgiveness incarnate. Without Jesus,
perhaps the good news would have been too
good to believe, too difficult to imagine.
But there he is in today's Gospel, the God-
man, forgiving a sinner and declaring that
she is forgiven because of her great love.
There is hope, then, for the rest of us
sinners, if only we love enough!

Feast Day: June 22
St. Paulinus could be the patron saint
of those who begin a second career
late in life. After a distinguished career
as a lawyer in public office, he retired at
age 35 to enjoy a life of leisure. But God had other
plans! Shortly after his retirement, St. Paulinus and his
wife, Therasia, were baptized. Then, saddened by the
death of their infant son, they gave away most of their
wealth and possessions and moved to Nola, near
Naples. There they embraced a monastic lifestyle and
set up a hospice to care for the sick and house pilgrims
to the shrine of St. Felix. Just a few years later,
Therasia died. In 409, Paulinus was called upon to use
his considerable experience in public affairs as Bishop
of Nola. "Renowned for his love of poverty and
concern for his people," and blessed with wealth,
talents, and opportunity, St. Paulinus used all his gifts
in the service of the Lord. In a poem dedicated to St.
Felix, this good steward said, "With all my wealth I pay
for the hope of heaven, because hope and faith are of
much more value than all the riches of this world."
