My Dear Friends in Christ,

I would like to address some concerns which
I have heard regarding the Jubilee Gala and the
ticket price. It was desirous by members of the
committee that the Gala be held at a time when our winter family would be able to participate. In order
to accomplish this, the date we were able to get corresponds with Spring break. The Sheraton shared
concerns that parking would be an issue since the hotel is expected to be full. For this reason, we
arranged to have bus transportation which is included in the ticket price. Being around for 50 years, there
have been many clergy who have passed through these doors. It is customary not just to invite them, but
also to pay for their dinner as well. With the current financial strain on the parish it would be impossible
to do this. Therefore, the committee decided that the ticket price would also aid the parish in defraying
its cost to pay for former associates who want to return to celebrate. The need to pay for entertainment is
also included in the ticket price, so not just to have music for dining, but also for the opportunity to dance
the night away as we celebrate this great event. So, therefore, it is important to realize that there is much
more included in the ticket price than just a dinner.
I realize that this is going to be beyond the reach of some of our families. However, it is also
important to remember that this is not the only event that we have, as a parish, to celebrate our Jubilee.
Each month we are trying to have something to celebrate. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 15,
2008 for our Irish/Italian celebration of our patronal feast, St. Patrick and St. Joseph's Day; also, June 1,
2008 when Bishop Lynch will be here to celebrate the 11 am Anniversary Mass with a reception to
follow; and, the following week, June 7
th
(the official date for the founding of our parish), we will be
having a picnic on the Church property. So there will be many more opportunities for us to gather as a
community to celebrate this great Jubilee.
Gospel Reflection
Today's gospel is the magnificent and moving account of
Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well. What begins
as a seemingly chance encounter while drawing water, becomes for
the woman the revelation of the God-man: "I know there is a Messiah
coming," the woman says, and Christ responds: "I who speak to you
am he." She receives a gift: "the water I give shall become a fountain
within...welling up to eternal life." Will we be like this simple woman,
whose simplicity enables her to encounter, without prejudice, the
revelation of Almighty God? Will each one of us accept God as He
lovingly and wisely reveals Himself, or will we, tragically, reject Him because He does not appear
according to our preconceived notions?
God's desire to embrace us draws near in Christ, and we enjoy the nearness of God in prayer.
Accept and practice daily the gift of prayer. Our baptism joins us to the perfect prayer and sacrifice of
Jesus Christ. The well of prayer is as deep as God, and our thirst is quenched fully only in Him. The
waters of baptism "welling up to eternal life" are the key to the life of prayer. Pray. "Draw water
joyfully at the springs of salvation.
"
Praised Be Jesus Christ,
Fr. Pecchie
JMJ
`If you knew the gift of God!' (Jn 4:10) The wonder of prayer is revealed beside the well where we come
seeking water: there, Christ comes to meet every human being. It is he who first seeks us and asks us for
a drink. Jesus thirsts; his asking arises from the depths of God's desire for us. Whether we realize it or
not, prayer is the encounter of God's thirst with ours. God thirsts that we may thirst for him.

Friday at 2 pm & 7 pm. Please join us.

First Reading -- As the prophet Samuel anointed
David with oil, the spirit of the L
ORD
rushed
upon David and remained with him from that day
forward (1 Samuel 16:
1b, 6-7, 10-13a
).
Psalm -- The Lord is my shepherd; there is
nothing I shall want (Psalm 23).
Second Reading -- You who were once
darkness are now light in the Lord. Live as
children of light (Ephesians 5:8-14).
Gospel -- The man who was blind from birth
proclaimed: The one called Jesus made clay with
his saliva, anointed my eyes with it, and told me
wash. When I washed, I was able to see! (John
9:1-41
[1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38]
).
Do we admit our own blindness and then see
the beauty and value of each person? Jesus is
waiting to offer us sight with new eyes of faith.
We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ
THIRSTING FOR LIFE-GIVING WATERS
Especially during the Lenten, Holy Week, and Easter seasons,
the prayer texts of the Eastern Church revel in paradoxical images of
Christ: the eternal life who is put to death, the host of the supper
who is also its meal, the thirsty crucified one with living water
streaming from his side. These images flow from the evangelists'
portrayals of Jesus and from his very ministry, during which he
often upset or reversed people's expectations about him or the ways
of God. This "reversal" is at play in today's Gospel, as Jesus speaks
to an enemy foreigner who is also a woman beneath his status. In
addition he, the thirsting one, shows the woman to be the one truly
thirsting. He whose parched lips will
say "I thirst" before he dies is the
source of life and life-giving water.
Lent calls upon us to dwell on how each
of us is thirsting for Christ, and it leads
us, ultimately, back to the life-giving
waters of our baptism into his Body.

PARISH MISSION PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we humbly beseech You to make us more faithful sons and daughters of Your Son's Church.
Help us to be vibrant, knowledgeable Catholics living in the midst of the modern world, so that we may be
beacons of light shining forth in defense of the Church's Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and Magisterium
(her teaching authority). Help us always to cultivate the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity in our daily lives,
so that whether single, married or consecrated priests, deacons or Religious, we may always share Your Truth
with others. We ask this through Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. AMEN.
