My Dear Friends in Christ,
Merry Christmas! Although in the secular world Christmas is
over, for us as believers we still celebrate the marvel of Christ's
birth. On this weekend we celebrate the great feast of the Holy Family.
In these days following our Lord's birth, we contemplate the mysteries
of his hidden life at Nazareth.
Jesus' obedience to his mother and foster-father fulfills the fourth
commandment perfectly and was the temporal image of his filial
obedience to his Father in heaven. The everyday obedience of Jesus to
Joseph and Mary both announced and anticipated the obedience of Holy Thursday: "Not my will..." (Lk
22:42) The obedience of Christ in the daily routine of his hidden life was already inaugurating his work
of restoring what the disobedience of Adam had destroyed. (Cf. Rom 5:19) (CCC 532)
The hidden life at Nazareth allows everyone to enter into fellowship with Jesus by the most ordinary
events of daily life: The home of Nazareth is the school where we begin to understand the life of Jesus,
the school of the Gospel. First lesson, the hidden life of Jesus teaches, is a lesson of silence. May
esteem for silence, that admirable and indispensable condition of mind, revive in us ... a lesson on
family life
. May Nazareth teach us what family life is, its communion of love, its austere and simple
beauty, and its sacred and inviolable character ... a lesson of work. Nazareth, home of the Carpenter's
Son, in you I would choose to understand and proclaim the severe and redeeming law of human work.
(CCC 533)
The finding of Jesus in the temple is the only event that breaks the silence of the Gospels about the
hidden years of Jesus. (Cf. Lk 2: 41-52) Here Jesus lets us catch a glimpse of the
mystery of his total consecration to a mission that flows from his divine sonship:
"Did you not know that I must be about my Father's work?" (Lk 2:49 alt.) Mary and
Joseph did not understand these words, but they accepted them in faith. Mary "kept
all these things in her heart" during the years Jesus remained hidden in the silence of
an ordinary life. (CCC 534)
Let us pray that like Mary we may ponder all the wonder and awe of our God
working and challenging us in our own lives. Let us respond like Jesus, Mary and
Joseph with utmost dedication and perseverance in doing God's will.
O Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord!
Fr. Pecchie
p.s. On behalf of Fr. Prakash, I would like to thank all who have been so generous with your priests
this Christmas. Fr. Prakash and I enjoyed all of the goodies and are grateful for your generosity

FAMILY LIFE
Family life is sacred, but it is not without trial. Perhaps this
is the most important message we can glean from today's
readings. If Jesus, Mary and Joseph can trip up sometimes
can disconnect then we shouldn't find it surprising when such
things happen to us as well. And parents everywhere
(children, too) can probably relate to and take some solace in
the Gospel's account of Mary and Joseph after Jesus ex-
plained why he stayed behind in
the temple. They heard his
words, Luke tells us, "But they
did not understand what he said
to them" (Luke 2:50). Amen!
Nevertheless, Jesus does go
back home with them, and con-
tinues to thrive under their care.
First Reading -- Rise up in splendor, Jerusa-
lem! The Lord shines upon you and the
glory of the Lord appears over you (Isaiah
60:1-6).
Psalm -- Lord, every nation on earth will
adore you (Psalm 72).
Second Reading -- The Gentiles are coheirs,
copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus
through the gospel (Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6).
Gospel -- Magi from the east arrived, looking
for the newborn king of the Jews (Matthew
2:1-12).
Since Jesus came for all people, have I ever
treated anyone as an "outsider"?
Do I reach out to others who might be
excluded? Have I ever been left out?

PRAYER FOR OUR FAMILY
O
God,
you have created us in love
and saved us in mercy,
and through the bond of marriage
you have established the family
and willed that it should become a
sign of Christ's love for his Church.
Shower your blessings on this family
gathered here in your name.
Enable those who are joined by one love
to support one another
by their fervor of spirit and devotion to prayer.
Make them responsive to the needs of others
and witnesses to the faith in all they say and do.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

esus, our most loving redeemer, You came to enlighten the world with your teaching and example. You willed
to spend the greater part of Your life in humble obedience to Mary and Joseph in the poor home of Nazareth.
In this way, You sanctified that family, which was to be an example for all Christian families. Graciously accept
our family, which we dedicate and consecrate to You this day. Be pleased to protect, guard, and keep it in holy
fear, in peace, and in the harmony of Christian charity. By conforming ourselves to the Divine model of Your fam-
ily, may we attain to eternal happiness.

Parish Ministries
He
never enjoyed a Christmas
 but if
He
had not lived,
there would never have been a Christmas for anyone.
He
never had a business
yet the best business of the
year comes at Christmas because of
Him
.
He
never had a toy
 but
He
has caused more toys to be
made, which have given more joy to more children and
more employment to more people than any other man who
has ever lived.
He
rarely received any gifts
 but every year for more
than 2000 years,
He
has inspired the giving of more gifts
than any other person in history.
He
never hung up
His
own stocking at Christmas
 if, in
fact,
He
ever had a stocking, yet
He
has caused more
stockings to be hung up at Christmas than all other men
who have ever lived.
When
He
was a mere infant,
His
parents had to flee to a
foreign country to save
His
life but
He
has given more
joy to millions of children than any other man in all the
world.
He
was often hungry
and never had bountiful food but
at Christmas and Easter
He
brings more sweets into more
homes and more bounty on the tables, more laughter and
song everywhere, than any other man of all time.
He
never went to school
, as far as we know but
He
has
caused thousands of schools, colleges and universities to
be erected all over the world.
He
did not leave a single written line
, and all that is
known of what
He
said could be put on one page of a
metropolitan newspaper but
He
has shed more light on
things human and divine than all the educators and
philosophers of ancient and modern times.
He
never wrote a book or saw a library
 but
He
has
caused more books to be written and read than any other
man in the world's history.
He
never had a dictionary
 but
He
has given birth to
more good words and cast the shadow of reproach on
more bad ones than any other man.
He
knew nothing of architecture
 but
He
has inspired
the conception and erection of the most magnificent
cathedrals and other beautiful buildings on the face of the
earth.
He
knew nothing of art
 yet
He
awakened the genius of
the world's greatest artists and has inspired more works of
art in the famous galleries than any other man.
He
knew nothing of medicine
 yet
He
healed the sick of
every type of disease, and caused the blind to see, the deaf
to hear, the dumb to speak, and even the dead to be
brought back to life.
He
never heard an oratorio or a grand opera
 but
He
has prompted the writing of the greatest hymns, songs of
joy and oratorios, that have ever been heard.
He
never
owned many of this world's goods but wealth has
multiplied wherever
He
has become known.
He
was
never more than a hundred miles from
His
birthplace after infancy
 but
His
fame for over 20
centuries has spread into every part of the world.
HERE IS A MAN . . . ONE SOLITARY LIFE:
He
was offered the kingdom of the world
 but
He
preferred the humble life and a spiritual kingdom.
His
own nation rejected
Him
and crucified
Him
 but
the people of every nation on earth have praised and
acclaimed Him.
He
was the perfect pacifist
 yet by the use of
His
one
and only weapon Love,
He
has overthrown some of the
greatest empires.
He
was born in a manger
and put to death as a
malefactor yet after more than two thousand years,
He
lives as no other man.
He
was a Jew
 but
He
is the only universal and
international personality who has ever risen above all
national and geographical lines and even racial instinct.
Great teachers, religious and otherwise
 speak only
for their day and generation but
He
spoke for all times,
conditions and peoples; and
His
truth anticipated every
change the world has ever known.
Conquerors come, rise and fall, live and die
 but this
Man has lived through the centuries. and every year
increasing millions sing the triumph of
His
life and
teachings.
Thousands of new Laws are made and many old ones
revived each year
but this Man continues to live and
influence more lives in a larger way with each passing
year.
His
one brief sermon
, delivered in the open air, has
become the Magna Charta and the supreme law for all
people for all ages.
Every other man had
His
faults
 but the judge who
condemned
Him
to an ignominious death publicly
declared, "I find no fault in this man".
He
never headed a government
or had any armed forces
at
His
command yet countless millions bow at the very
mention of
His
name and sing anthems of praise and
thanksgiving for
His
life.
He
associated freely with publicans and sinners
 and
His
personal appearance was neither striking nor unusual,
yet the world would give millions for an actual picture of
this humble carpenter's son, who devoted
Himself
to
unselfish ministry for others.
His
life on this earth covered only 33 years
 from
Bethlehem to Calvary but the story of that life has been
translated into every language and is acknowledged the
world's "best seller".
He
is universally recognized
as the final arbiter in
theology and sociology, in divine commands and human
rights.
If the people and nations would only follow
His
teachings injustice, poverty and fear would be
banished, and war would be no more.
He
is
Jesus Christ
,
the Son of God,
the one and the only
hope
of the world.

In their pastoral letter, Steward-
ship: A Disciple's Response
, the
U.S. bishops urge us to look to
Mary for a clear example of Chris-
tian stewardship. "After Jesus,"
they say, "it is the Blessed Virgin
Mary who by her example most
perfectly teaches the meaning of
discipleship and stewardship in their fullest sense. All of
their essential elements are found in her life: she was
called and gifted by God; she responded generously,
creatively, and prudently; she understood her divinely
assigned role as 'handmaid' in terms of service and fidel-
ity (see Lk 1:26-56). As Mother of God, her stewardship
consisted of her maternal service and devotion to Jesus,
from infancy to adulthood, up to the agonizing hours of
Jesus' death (Jn 19:25)."
On this day when the Church
celebrates the motherhood of the Virgin Mary, we pray,
"May her prayer, the gift of a mother's love, be your peo-
ple's joy through all ages. May her response, born of a
humble heart, draw your Spirit to rest on your people."
Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us, that we, too, may
respond with love when God calls.
Mary was the Mother of Jesus. She was betrothed of
Saint Joseph. We celebrate her birth on September 8th. It
is thought that she was born in 20BC and never died, but
was assumed into heaven. We celebrate her assumption
into heaven on the 15th of August. She has been known to
appear to many throughout the ages, including to the chil-
dren of Fatima, St. Bernadette in Lourdes, Juan Diego of
Guadalupe, Mexico, to name a few. She is the patron
saint of over 154 countries, states and professions.
The prayer to honor Mary, Mother of God, the Hail Mary
:
Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art Thou Among Women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
