THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Fr. Paul Pecchie
ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH
(727) 584-2318 Tel.
Fr. Prakash Madanu, ALCP.
2121 - 16th Avenue SW, Largo, FL 33770
(727) 586-5413 Fax.
My Dear Friends in Christ,

Rejoice! It is the third Sunday of Advent and we rejoice. We light our
Rose candle and the priest wears Rose colored vestments.
Traditionally, it is called Gaudete Sunday from the entrance antiphon in the
Tridentine Mass. Our joy is far more profound than the superficial happiness of
contrived Christmas emotions. We rejoice because the light of truth has
destroyed the darkness of sin. We rejoice because we have been drawn by the
truth. We rejoice because Jesus Christ is the truth. He embodies the truth. He is
the truth. And He and the truth are, as the Letter to the Hebrews states, "The
same, yesterday, today and forever."

I hope that you all were able to get out and see The Christmas Offering this past Friday
or Saturday. The St. Patrick Players did a great job! I cannot wait to see what they are
going to do next. It was a wonderful way to get into the true meaning of Christmas.
Our time of preparation is running out. How have we been doing in preparing our
hearts and making room for Him in the Inn of our Soul? Rejoice the Lord is near!
Repent and believe the Good News!
Have you given any thought to what you are giving to Jesus this Christmas? It is the Christmas collection
that helps us get through the leaner months of the summer. So I would ask
that you be generous to the Lord this Christmas. I thank you all for your
continued support of our parish. I know you will be generous and remember
the Lord cannot be outdone in generosity.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
Fr. Pecchie

ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE
Please join us in celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation
on Tuesday, December 18th
beginning at 7:00 PM in the Church.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is truly a symbol of Christ's
presence in the Church. It is a way we put our lives back together
with God, Family, Church and one another. It is a way we recharge
our lives; a unity with God. It is a wonderful way to prepare
ourselves for the coming of our Savior. Please join us as we will
share an examination of conscience and welcome visiting priests
from around the area to help us share in God's mercy and love.
This is the best opportunity to go to Confession before Christmas.

Regular Confession times at St. Patrick: .................................. Saturdays at 3:30 PM and at 5:30 PM

Reconciliation Services / Confessions at neighboring parishes:
St. Cecelia Church, 820 Jasmine Way, Clearwater.................... Monday, December 17 at 10 AM and 7 PM

First Reading -- You will be given this sign:
The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and
shall name him Emmanuel (Isaiah 7:10-14).
Psalm -- Let the Lord enter; he is the king of
glory (Psalm 24).
Second Reading -- God has called us to
belong to Jesus Christ (Romans 1:1-7).
Gospel -- The son born of Mary shall be
called Jesus, for he will save his people from
their sins. He shall be Emmanuel, which
means "God is with us" (Matthew 1:18-24).
Am I aware how faithful God is?
He is always "with us" and "for us".
He helps us in our pain and struggles.
Thank you, Lord, for your coming!
We are . . . Disciples in Mission
Sharing our Faith in Christ all year!
A SEASON OF HOPE
Today we can bask in the imagery that the Mass readings offer
us. In particular, Isaiah's vision of a parched land that blooms with
abundant flowers holds a message for each of us. Too often we are
just like that parched land. We can allow ourselves to become
absorbed in the waves of consumerism that grip so many. We look
for fulfillment in the things that money can buy. Unfortunately, this
leaves us like parched land, thirsting for something that money can't
buy. This holy season has much to offer to quench our thirsts. In a
word, this season offers hope.
We are told that those who are
ransomed by God will know joy
and gladness. For them, sorrow
and mourning will be no more.
Let us place our hope in these
promises.

REMEMBRANCE TREE
The Remembrance Tree will be set up in
the Church this weekend. If you still have your
angel from last year, please bring it from
home to place on our tree this year. For
those who have died recently, white angel and dove
ornaments will be available for you to write
down the name(s) of your deceased loved
one(s). Hang the ornament on the tree in
Church, where it will be a special
remembrance. Then, after Christmas Mass,
take your ornament home for your own tree.
The ornaments were donated by Moss
Feaster Funeral Home (Serenity Gardens).
THANK YOU to all who have sponsored a child from THE GIVING TREE. Please ensure that
gifts for the children are returned to the School Cafeteria this weekend,
December 15 & 16 so that they will be ready for sorting and distribution
on Monday, December 17th. Thank You for generous giving! May God
continue to bless you and your family during this Advent season!

LATE NITE CATECHISM
Saturday, January 5 at 7:30 PM
The Conmy Center at Our Lady of Lourdes
Late Nite Catechism is an uproarious piece of theater
that takes audience members back - sometimes nos-
talgically, sometimes fearfully - to the children they
once were. The irrepressible Sister teaches an adult
catechism class to a roomful of "students" (the audi-
ence). Over the course of the play, Sister goes from
benevolent instructor, rewarding the "students" for cor-
rect answers with souvenirs, to authoritative drill ser-
geant. Audiences love her and it's a lesson you won't
soon forget! Tickets are on sale. General seating $35
doors opening at 7 pm - Saintly Seating with wine &
cheese $50 doors opening at 6 pm. Box office hours 9
am - 5 pm weekdays the parish office and 8 am - 1 pm
Sundays at the Conmy Center. For your convenience
we are able to accept credit cards over the phone or in
person. Any questions, please call 733-3606 x 270.

Why were we created male and female? Where do we come
from and why? What is the meaning of life? How do we ex-
perience it? In the words of Pope John Paul II, "if we live
according to the meaning of our sexuality, we fulfill the very
meaning of our being and existence." Many people think
they understand what the church teaches about the body
and the relationship between man and woman. However,
the deeper reasons the WHY of these teachings are NOT
well understood. The human body is meant to be a sign of
God's own life and love in the world. Join Christopher West
for a thought provoking presentation that will enrich your un-
derstanding of human sexuality and the spiritual power it
contains. Visit

the scriptures and pray for
each other. For info call

Sometimes called the "second
apostle of Germany" (the first being
St. Boniface), St. Peter Canisius was
a Jesuit scholar who preached and
wrote in defense of the faith during
the Catholic Counter Reformation.
He began his career as a teacher in
Sicily and then was sent to Germany where he eventually
became Provincial of his order. He also founded a number of
colleges and seminaries and wrote a very popular catechism
that was translated into nine languages. His expertise in
Scripture and early Church history, his facility with words,
and his natural diplomacy were just the combination of gifts
the Church needed in the years following the Protestant
Reformation, and this steward saint used them tirelessly to
renew the Church. Asked if he felt overworked, St. Peter
Canisius answered, "If you have too much to do, with God's
help you will find time to do it all." That sounds very much
like St. Paul's reassurance that "... the one who began a good
work in you will continue to complete it until the day of
Christ Jesus" (Phil.1:6). We need only offer our gifts in love
and trust.

Dear Lord, we feel the excitement building as we anticipate Christmas Day.
We need help, though, remembering the true reason for our joy the birth of Jesus.
May our joy reflect him every day. Amen.
