FIRST FRIDAY
FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTION
TO THE SACRED HEART
SACRED HEART
SACRED HEART
SACRED HEART OF JESUS
JESUS
JESUS
JESUS
The First Friday of each month was designated by our
Savior Himself as a day to be consecrated to honoring His
Sacred Heart ... As the object of this devotion is to make our
Savior Jesus Christ ardently and perfectly loved, and to
make reparation for the outrages
offered to Him in the past, as well as
for those which He daily receives in the
Blessed Eucharist ... Jesus Christ
merits our love at all times, but alas!
He is despised and outraged in the
Sacrament of His love at all times, and
so people should at all times make
reparation to Him. Attendance at the
Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is assuredly
the best means of honoring and loving
the adorable Heart of Jesus.
Our First Friday Mass in honor of the Sacred Heart
will be offered at 6:30 PM on May 2, 2008 as part of
St. Patrick's Golden Jubilee celebration.
A covered dish dinner, hosted by the Knights of
Columbus, will follow in Msgr. McCall Hall. We will be
viewing a short DVD on our Holy Father Pope
Benedict's Journey of Hope.
All are invited. Bring your favorite dish to share!

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Alleluia! The Lord is Risen!
This is our Remember, Respond, Renew Commitment Weekend. We are asking all of the parishioners
of St. Patrick to commit themselves to our campaign. Again we do not know what each can give but we are asking
all to make an equal sacrifice to our campaign. This will ensure retiring the debt and meeting the needed repair
demands as outlined in the brochure that you received at a reception or in the mail.
I hope you all had a chance to see the Music Man performance put on by our school children under the direction
of Mrs. Mende, our Fifth grade teacher. Our students did a wonderful job and certainly cause us something to be
very proud. Congratulations to all involved for a job well done.
Today, many live without belief in the existence of truth. Some use the word without
understanding its authentic meaning, as if it can denote only a personal opinion, a thing that is
"true" only for the individual who holds that idea. This widespread relativism, the system of
thought which refuses to affirm that any one idea or law can apply to all persons, is "true", has
crept with increasing power like an infection into the body of the Church. The members of
Christ's Body are ever affected by the same forces and currents as is every human person. For the
Catholic Christian, however, there can never be any confusion as to the existence of truth. There can be no Catholic
faith without truth, for Christ founded the Church for the purpose of teaching the truth, endowing her with the gift
of the Holy Spirit by which the truth is taught infallibly in matters of faith and morals in every age.
The Church cannot be the Body of Christ unless the Church leads us into all the truth, for Christ is the Truth.
The Church cannot teach the truth without the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit of truth, for the human members
of the Church are incapable of grasping and remaining faithful to the Word of truth without divine grace. The Lord
promised the gift of the Holy Spirit so that man might persevere in the truth and so be saved.
Let your "Yes" mean "Yes" and your "No" mean "No." We must speak the truth in order to bear
the name of Christian and live in hope of the Resurrection of the just. In order to abide in the truth, we
must live in obedience, making the "Yes" of the Church our own "Yes" and the "No" of the Church our
own "No."
The Church teaches the truth so that we may abide in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit who proclaims
the truth in the Church. The Holy Spirit gives particular assistance to the Holy Father who
leads the Church on earth into all the truth. The Lord's vicar on earth, the successor of Peter,
ministers to the Church and the world as a servant of the truth, that all mankind may be freed
to live eternal life. When Peter teaches in matters of faith and morals, it is not his own
opinion he offers; rather, it is the Spirit of Truth who speaks through him.
By the power of the Spirit, the Lord's promise is made real in our own day:
"He who hears you, hears me."
Praised Be Jesus Christ!

Sixth Sunday of Easter
In Jesus Christ, the whole of God's truth has been made manifest. "Full of grace and truth" he came as the
light of the world, "He is the Truth." (Jn 1:14; 8:12; cf. 14:6.) "Whoever believes in me may not remain in
darkness." (Jn 12:46.) The disciple of Jesus continues in his word so as to know "the truth [that] will set you
free" and that sanctifies. (Jn 8:32; cf. 17:17.) To follow Jesus is to live in "the Spirit of truth," whom the Father
sends in his name and who leads "into all the truth." (Jn 16:13.) To his disciples Jesus teaches the
unconditional love of truth: "Let what you say be simply `Yes or No.' " (Mt 5:37.) (CCC 2466)
Shhhhhhh! It's a secret ...on Thursday, May 1st, we want to wish a ...

First Reading -- Jesus tells the disciples that
they will be witnesses to the ends of the earth
(Acts 1:1-11).
Psalm -- God mounts his throne to shouts of
joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord (Psalm 47).
Second Reading -- May the Father of glory
give you a Spirit of wisdom and revelation
(Ephesians 1:17-23).
Gospel -- Jesus instructs the eleven to baptize
and teach people of all nations (Matthew 28:16-
20).
Through my baptism, am I fully committed
to bring the Good News to all
I meet, serve and live with?
Am I respectful of all baptized persons,
reflecting on the phrase
`we acknowledge one Baptism'?

Sharing our Faith in Christ
PEOPLE OF HOPE
Throughout this Easter season the readings have drawn us into
the experience of the early church. We have tasted the excitement
and zeal of the first Christians. Now, with them, we listen to the
words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people notice that
we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why. This
challenges us. Do others even notice that we are people of hope? In
a world often marked by cynicism and
hopelessness, do we stand out as
peopl e who of f er h ope and
reassurance to others? In today's
Gospel Jesus promises that when he
leaves the earth he will not leave us
orphaned. Today he promises to send
his Advocate, the Spirit of truth who
will be with us always. Let us
acknowledge the presence of the Holy
Spirit and ask the Spirit to make us
people of hope.

Patron Saint of dying people, engineers, families, fathers,

Universal Church, working people
Feast Day: May 1
In 1955, Pope Pius XII instituted
the feast of St. Joseph the
Worker on May 1, the day set
aside in some countries to
celebrate the dignity of labor and
the rights of workers. With its
emphasis on work, this feast is
also an obvious springboard to
total stewardship. In their
pastoral letter on stewardship the
U.S. bishops declare, "People
first of all are stewards of the
personal vocations they receive
from God." Husband of Mary,
foster father of Jesus, and carpenter of Nazareth, St.
Joseph was a model steward, putting his entire life at
the service of God. The Church teaches that all who,
"in the course of gaining a livelihood for themselves
and their families, offer appropriate service to
society... can be confident that their personal efforts
promote the work of the Creator, confer benefit on
their fellowmen, and help to realize God's plan in
history."
God our Father, creator and
ruler of the universe, in
every age you call us to
develop and use our gifts
for the good of others.
With St. Joseph as our
example and guide, help us
to do the work you have
asked of us and come to
the rewards you have promised. Amen.
May 1st falls on Ascension Thursday this year,
however, the Bishop has moved the Feast of the Ascension
to the Seventh Sunday of Easter, therefore,
today, we celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker.
