My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Alleluia! The Lord is Risen!
I hope and pray that you had the opportunity to watch
some of the Pope's visit to our Country. What an historic time for
us to be alive and how graced we, as Catholics, have been to be
able to welcome our Holy Father, the successor of St. Peter and
visible head of the Body of Christ, to our land. His message was
one of hope -- a theme he has been focusing on for some time in
his writings and audiences. In wherever we are on our spiritual
journey, in whatever assails us in our everyday life, we have a hope that comes from not
worldly realities, but Jesus himself.
In preparation for our Holy Father's visit, our parish families joined in a Family Eucharistic
Holy Hour with Fr. Antoine. Father is a priest of the Brothers of St. John, one of the fastest
growing communities since its establishment in the 1970s. Fr. Antoine's whole mission is to
bring children to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He founded a group called Children of
Hope. How fitting that the group's name corresponds with Pope Benedict's message. Thanks
to Joe Blum for organizing the event.
During the Easter Season, our Scripture readings underscore Jesus' ongoing presence in the
Church. We see this Sunday the institution of deacons. Like priests and bishops, they are
fallible, weak human beings whom the Lord uses to teach, govern and sanctify his Church.
Among the Seven were great saints: Stephen was the first martyr, Philip a powerful evangelizer.
As in early times, the Church today has some terrible sinners, as well
as great saints -- and a lot of people like you and me who are
somewhere in the middle, trying to figure things out. The Church also
has to deal with false teachers. Protecting the Church from wolves
(false teachers) is the primary obligation of bishops (episcopoi =
overseers).
What should the rest of us do when we encounter false
teaching or scandalous behavior? After prayer, we might confront
the person or even report it to the legitimate authority. But we can
also do what St. Francis did. Once he encountered a priest who was living openly with a
concubine. One of the Brothers Minor asked if the priest's Masses were contaminated beyond
legitimacy. Francis said nothing, but went to the priest, knelt before him and kissed his hands.
"But Brother Francis," the brother said to him afterward, "those are the hands of a sinner, a
man bringing terrible shame upon Christ's Bride, the Church." "Yes, Brother," St. Francis
replied. "And those hands also hold God." Francis' gesture so affected the priest that he
repented and went on to live a holy, prayerful life.
Brothers and sisters, there will always be scandalous sinners and false teachers - but the
Church herself continues as Jesus' presence in time and space. At this moment, we pray even
more ardently for her cleansing, beginning with our own selves. When the curtain closes on
human history, what will remain is Jesus and his spotless bride. (Rev. 19:7; 21:2) For that
reason he tells us:
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
I want to thank all who participated in our Remember, Respond, Renew Campaign
Receptions. I also want to thank the campaign committee under the direction of Charlie
Harper and all the volunteers who helped make the receptions possible with the set
up and goodies shared. It was somewhat disappointing to see so few come to the
receptions after the Masses last weekend. The success of our campaign depends
on the participation of all St. Patrick Parishioners. We are already just over
$400,000.00 towards our goal of 1 million with only 5% of the parish responding
thus far. I hope everyone will continue to pray for the success of this campaign
and prayerfully consider how best to join us in participating.
Praise Be Jesus Christ! ~
Fr. Pecchie

First Reading -- The people of Samaria
accepted the word of God preached by Philip
(Acts 8:5-8, 14-17).
Psalm -- Let all the earth cry out to God with
joy (Psalm 66)
Second Reading -- Act with gentleness and
reverence toward all, so that when you are
maligned those who defame you will be the
ones put to shame (1 Peter 3:15-18) or 1 Peter
4:13-16.
Gospel -- I will not leave you orphans, but will
come to you (John 14:15-21) or John 17:1-
11a.
Am I there for that lonely person,
friend, neighbor, relative or child
who feels abandoned?
I could be the one who gives the comfort and
assurance needed to help renew their faith!

Sharing our Faith in Christ
THE WAY
Today we sense the apostles' trepidation as they begin to realize
that the Lord would soon be leaving them. In their fear, they ask,
"Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know
the way?" (John 14:5). Jesus tells them that he is the way. The
Easter season has been a time of growing in Easter faith so that we,
too, may learn to know that Jesus is the way. We can take comfort
in the Lord's promise that he is going to his Father's house to
prepare a place for us, his chosen people who have been called out
of darkness into God's
wonderful light. As the
paschal candle continues to
burn during this holy season,
let us remember that in
baptism we were given the
light of Christ. With Christ our
light as the beacon lighting our
way, let us march toward the
glory of Pentecost.

the Kingdom established by Christ in His Church is intimately connected with the Kingdom of

mysterious figures and images of Revelation represent, as well as about what will happen
during the second coming of Christ, what has already happened and what is happening now
in salvation history. To register call Sr. Kathleen at 584-2318 ext. 321.
