My Dear Friends in Christ,
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
I would like to thank all of those who attended one of the
Remember, Respond and Renew receptions. Hopefully if you have not made
one you will be able to make one of the ones coming up. It is nice to see so
much support for the parish as we plan for our future here in Largo.
A special thank you to the Jubilee Gala Committee for all their hard work
in making the 50
th
Gala a great success. A good time was had by all. It was great to see so
many come back and celebrate with those of us still here. I would be remiss if I did not
personally thank Virginia Copodonna and Janet Friederich for all they did to make the Gala
such a hit. Thanks also to George Feaster, a long time friend of St. Patrick, for having our
Sisters picked up in a limousine. They were extremely grateful for his kindness.
In a little over a week, our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI will bless
this country with his Apostolic visit. Next week I will have an insert for
special prayers to pray for each day he is with us in the USA. Hopefully
you will all get a chance to watch this historic event on EWTN, the global
catholic network.
A thought on God's Word
We are led to the Easter Christ in the Eucharist by this
beautiful and moving account of our Lord's appearance to the
two disciples on the road to Emmaus, in the gospel according to
Saint Luke, chapter twenty-four, verses thirteen to thirty-five.
Shattered as they were by His crucifixion and death, news of
which had been passed throughout the cities and towns from
Jerusalem, the disciples were in need of the greatest gift this
side of heaven, to fill them again with hope, to give them
undying faith in the Risen Lord. And so the Catechism leads our thoughts to the presence of
the risen Lord whom we worship, adore, praise and receive in the Mass, the "Lord's Supper."
The Sacrament of the Eucharist is known by this and other titles,
discussed in the Catechism. "The Lord's Supper, because of its connection
with the supper which the Lord took with his disciples on the eve of his Passion
and because it anticipates the wedding feast of the Lamb in the heavenly
Jerusalem. (1Cor 11:20; Rev 19:9)
"The Breaking of Bread, because Jesus used this rite, part of a Jewish
meal, when as master of the table he blessed and distributed the bread, (Mt
14:19; 15:36; Mk 8:6,19) above all at the Last Supper. (Mt 26:26; 1 Cor 11:24)
It is by this action that his disciples will recognize him after his Resurrection,
(Luke 24:13-35) and it is this expression that the first Christians will use to
designate their Eucharistic assemblies; (Acts 2:42, 26; 20:7, 11) by doing so
they signified that all who eat the one broken bread, Christ, enter into communion with him and
form but one body in him. (1 Cor 10:16-17)
"The Eucharistic assembly, because the Eucharist is celebrated amid the
assembly of the faithful, the visible expression of the Church (1 Cor11: 17-34). The Eucharist is
the Easter Sacrament. In the Eucharist we meet, know and possess God incarnate, our Lord Jesus
Christ. (CCC 1329)
Praised be Jesus Christ!

Third Sunday of Easter
Next Sunday, April 13, is a special Easter celebration of Good Shepherd Sunday.
In 1963, Pope Paul VI designated this day as World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
Our parish will join with the universal church to ask for God's blessing that we may
be strengthened in our Christian vocation. Join us for a Holy Hour at 2 PM.
First Reading -- All peoples called by God
will receive the gift of the Spirit if they repent
and are baptized (Acts 2:14a, 36-41).
Psalm -- The Lord is my shepherd; there is
nothing I shall want (Psalm 23).
Second Reading -- Once we were like straying
sheep; but now we have been returned to the
shepherd, our guardian (1 Peter 2:20b-25).
Gospel -- The shepherd leads the sheep out
into pastures of abundant life (John 10:1-10).
Do we, as a parish community,
welcome all sheep
who enter through our doors
and call them by name?
Let us reach out
to the vulnerable like Jesus,
the Good Shepherd.

Sharing our Faith in Christ
ON THE ROAD
One central metaphor employed to describe
the Christian life is a journey. In today's second
reading, Peter addresses the early Christian
community: "Conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of
your sojourning" (1 Peter 1:17). When we think of a journey, we
normally think of some kind of movement from point A to point B.
The Christian journey, begun in the waters of
baptism, (point A) has as its ultimate
destination, eternal life with God in heaven
(point B). Unfortunately, we find ourselves
on all kinds of detours along the way.
Because of sin, we make foolish turns and
sometimes seem unable to detect the presence
of the Lord. Today's story of the two
disciples on their way to Emmaus illustrates
for us the fact that, even when we are
dejected or on one of our many detours, the
Lord is there, walking right beside us.

Eucharistic Adoration for Families
Fr. Antoine Thomas, a native of France and a member of the
Community of St. John in the diocese of Peoria, IL is coming to
St. John Vianney Parish and St. Patrick Parish on Sunday, April
13, 2008. Fr. Antoine will be here at St. Patrick Church for a
Eucharistic Holy Hour for families from 2 PM until 3 PM in the
Church.
Fr. Antoine's mission is to teach people how to pray to
Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament and to encourage an increase in Eucharistic Adoration, especially with
our children and youth. There is nothing more pleasing to God than the innocent prayers of children. Fr.
Antoine has appeared on numerous occasions on EWTN and has filmed several series for them. He has led
children in Eucharistic Adoration all around the world, including Australia, Mexico
and Canada. In each place his message is the same, "To bring children close to
the heart of Jesus and to gaze upon Him in Adoration".
We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to welcome Fr. Antoine and to
have him come and share his love of Jesus in the Eucharist. Please mark your
calendars and plan to attend. Don't miss this awesome opportunity for your
family to grow in love and understanding for Jesus in the Eucharist. For more
information, check out his website at

the Kingdom established by Christ in His Church is intimately connected with the Kingdom of
Heaven, especially through the celebration of the Mass. You will learn also what all the
mysterious figures and images of Revelation represent, as well as about what will happen
during the second coming of Christ, what has already happened and what is happening now
in salvation history. To register call Sr. Kathleen at 584-2318 ext. 321.
